One of the problems with La Fortuna is that the large number of restaurants catering to tourists makes it impossible to try them all. So, even though we own a property in El Castillo and spend a lot of time in Fortuna, we tend to...return to a few favorites time and again. Recently, however, as I was passing by I noticed a sign for Pollo a la Lena-what we would call Car-broiled chicken in Canada and had an urge to stop in for some. I ordered the quarter chicken platter which came with a large breast quarter, pickled plantain, a pot of refried beans and four crispy-fried green plantain pancakes. I had this with a Sol beer, lime and salt. Midway through, my waiter Faylan brought me a complimentary shot of spicy pepper drink. The entire meal came in at 8,100 colones (around $13) and I had to carry away half of it because it was so much food. I would consider this very good value for the money. Faylan is a charming and attentive host, speaks very clear English, and made sure to ask me to submit a review which I am doing now. This restaurant will now be added to our list of favorites in La Fortuna and I'm sure we'll be back.More
