I have been at Porta Nova every week since 2009, so I have seen this restaurant growing and getting better, i had really good feeling thanks to the good food and kindly staff. But during the last couples of months the food is getting worst and worst and many good employee leaved without good replacement. Today we touched the bottom... More

I you want to eat Italian food this is a good place where to go. The cook is Chinese but his pasta was nice. When I asked "al dente" pasta they know what I meant, which is rare. If you are Italian like me and miss home this is the right place.

I've just eaten a pizza with salami. It was tasty and crunchy as I like. Taste was very close to an italian one.

We walked down the Hongmei Pedestrian street looking for a place to go for lunch. Decided to give the Porta Nova Italian a try. The food was delicious, the pizza was good (not the best though in shanghai). Risotto was done very nice, the children received a big portion of linguine with loads of parmigiana. Overall a good experience here.

I come to Shanghai about 5 times a year and the food is very similar to a family style restaurant in New Jersey. The pizza is great and ask for very thin crust. They are very accommodating and the staff is also very nice. They have many different beers and wines and only a small corkage charge which you can... More

Yes, I agree with other's comment that this place is "under-rated". It is under-rated probably because; a) the street is filled with other mouth-watering restaurants and b) the food and beverages are over-priced. a) Risotto is average. b) Pizza is one of the best in Shanghai. The chunky base and a bit salty tomoto sauce are kind of "genuine"-ish. Much... More

It's a typical Italian restaurant and the food there is very nice. Very good pizza, pasta,... The atmosphere is nice, quiet. Staff is very friendly. Just a good place to relax for lunch or dinner.

A little out of the way on the end of Lao Wai Jie (Foreigner Street) next to Hong Xu Lu, but ideal if you live in the Gu Bei/ Hong Qiao area. Lacking in atmosphere unlike Da Marco, but the food is comparable. They do an excellent sliced sirloin with rosemary potato covered in flakes of parmesan. Pizza is good... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.
