I ate here with a group two nights while in Shanghai. I had a gluten free card with me in Mandarin which they read through and took to the kitchen. The first visit I had the lamb chops, while the chops themselves were a little overcooked the squash and brussel sprouts were so good! On the second visit I have... More

Charters Garden serves a wide variety of Mediteranean cuisine as well as a few Western dishes. It is moderately priced (around 250 rmb, $40.00 USD avaerage) for a great meal with 1 drink. The food is very fresh, and they have daily chef specials. I have eaten there several times and ordered different dishes from Baked Salmon, to Filet Mignon.... More

We had our farewell dinner in this superb French Restaurant with architecture elements to think you were in France.. The divine squash soup, with creme fraiche stirred in, was the best soup I had had in two weeks. There were two main courses to choose from: my husband and I selected a wonderful poached salmon, which we hadn't had in... More

A wonderful experience dining in a large, restored historic property in the French Concession. Both Italian and French dishes were well done, including traditional lasagne, pork cordon bleu, and steak. Reasonably-priced considering the good quality of the food.

An oasis within Shanghai, right near the end of Fuxing Lu, find a french / Italian restaurant that will meet or exceed your culinary and service demands. I've been here perhaps more than any other restaurant in Asia, and keep coming back again and again. I have never found fault with the food, and am continually surprised at new dishes... More

If you are in Shanghai and are craving for an English style restaurant, this is something unique. In a town with more Chinese restaurants than bricks in the great wall, you can be treated to western service, typical western cuisine. In all a class experience where no trotters or feet from something weird appear on the menu.....alll at a very... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
