HK style restaurant.. the variety of food is big, and quality range around medium-good. after a quick visit to fuxin park, this is a good option to get immersed into a local restaurant. i... More

Will freely admit to not being an expert on cantonese food, but certainly wasn't blown away by anything we had here. Was decent a stodgy, and it's a lovely place if (like me) you enjoy the 1950s Hong Kong vibe they've created.

This is a good, local place for Hong Kong-style food just north of Fuxing Park. I would say the food is good by Shanghai standards. But Din Tai Fung is far better.

Nostalgia is the first feeling that will hit you when you step into this unassuming restaurant. It looks dirty and old to make you feel more at home with a hole in the wall restaurant in HK. Food is a bit on the pricey scale, but with every bite, you feel like home. Even the utensils and the bowls they... More

I have been living in Shanghai for many years and wanted a simple dinner. Not a good choice. Their signature chicken dish had hardy any meat. And the scrambled eggs with scrimps were too oily. There are much better options in this great city. I left hungry and disappointed.

This is a fun place to feel part of real Shanghai. Take a ticket from the lady near the door and wait your turn - she is impressively brusque! We were 2 and had to share a table. Menu is in English as well as Chinese. Food is good and generous portions. Prawns with celery & cashews was great, also... More

We followed the guide book on day one and it did not disappoint. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and don't be shocked if you have to share a small table with strangers. We had two sets of people who sat with us and both offered us to taste their food. Lemon chicken and the chicken wings. Both tasted great!!... More

Go when you have a hankering for Hong Kong cha chan teng food and deco. The food is almost HK good and for Shanghai that is pretty darn good. The 'nai cha' is a must have. Always a queue, but won't have to wait too long for seats.

Great food and service. NZD50 for a family of four. Fast, cheerful and authentic. No English spoken but English translation on menu. Point and smile!

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
