Wonderful food and wonderful service. They offer mostly traditional western food with a few Chinese plates but sometimes you just want a juicy steak. The service is excellent and their food is excellent. They have beautiful views of The Bund and the ambiance can be...More

Fancy hotel with lots of historical charm, fantastic view of the Shanghai skyline - these would be the reasons for visting the Cathay Room again. The food was good; I particularly liked the cherry-like foie gras. However, nothing was exceptional, but then nothing was bad...More

Fantastic View on the Bund in this classic restaurant with beautiful wood carvings. Service is excellent and the food a very high level Chinese Cuisine with a mix of Cantonese and Shangalese.

Just finished a well prepared meal with excellent service and perhaps the best view of Shanghai I have experienced. The menu offers excellent choices served in Western style. Restaurant is pricy and the wine list is good as well. The view alone (sit by a...More

The rooftop bar has exceptional views of the Bund and Pudong. Service can be a bit slow, and too hot in summer, but the view makes up for much.

While we were a little disappointed that the food lacked some of the bigger tastes we were expecting, it was still delicious. Our service was excellent and the view better! Worthwhile making a reservation near a window after dark to see the majesty of the...More

East game in China can be a challenge if you don't speak the language and/or are not an adventurous eater. The food and service was excellent. Wait staff explained each course. Soup dumplings were excellent.

Americans. The atmosphere of colonial-era luxury has
endured over time and is now found in the five-star

Description
Step back into an era of European fine-dining elegance, with stellar service and sparkling Bund views from the terrace, The Cathay Room transports guests back almost a century in time to a glamorous bygone era. The Cathay Room has been Shanghai’s premier dining address since the 30's, not only for its food delicacies but also for its status as a much celebrated, high profile social institution. Originally established as the Grill House in 1933, the Cathay Room was where hotel founder and eccentric global traveller, Sir Victor Sassoon, dined with his highbrow friends in true style. Global leaders, celebrities and socialites came for the perfect dining experience, enjoying the exceptional quality of service and unsurpassed Bund panoramas. Today, the revived Cathay Room embodies the same values of culinary vision, service excellence and social dining. Chef Joshua selects the finest seasonal ingredients from organic and ecological producers for her inspired creations that overwhelm guests’ taste buds with a dash of haute cuisine flair. Lunch Set Menu is served from 12 pm until 2:30 pm. Authentic European classics and contemporary creations highlight premium cuts of meat and seafood accompanied by fresh seasonal vegetables and salads. Since developing its passion for excellence in 1929, The Cathay Room’s extensive wine list features more than 250 European and New World labels, including a large selection of medium and full-bodied reds for perfect matching of the prime cuts of meat.
