Coming from a county with accessibility to enjoy a diverse range of food, I was pleased to accept an invitation to enjoy dinner at Simply Thai by a friend. The Tom Yum Soup was very comforting, especially since it was pouring that evening. Flavor was precise and matched what I remembered from eating it both in Thailand and Thai restaurants... More

Love sitting in their patio area & enjoying Pad Thai noodles after a Bike Ride. Very accommodating with parking our bikes in the patio area. Or for heartwarming Tom Yum soup indoors when the weather gets cooler.

Very nicely decorated restaurant in a nice area of Shanghai, just off Hengshan road. The restaurant has an indoor room (very cold AC) and an outdoor garden sitting. Depending on heat and mosquito levels, you might prefer to eat inside. The staff is nice and professional. They speak English with makes it easier when you don't speak Chinese. The menu... More

Change of menu is shocking when they were regularly voted best Thai food in Shanghai, why would anyone change... Is this location different than the others I don't know but was really disappointing....Wish I could get back to the old menu. NEVER AGAIN FEEL CHEATED

Dined here last night. We ate upstairs. It lacks 'something' and is rather sparse. The restaurant area is nicer down stairs. The Chicken and coconut soup, Tom Ka Gai was really not nice. Watery, not spicy, horrible chewy pieces of chicken, no mushrooms or other flavoring at all. Prawn spring rolls - over cooked and very crunchy. Papaya Salad -... More

We tried pad thaï with prawns, fried rice with olive, banana fritters and mango with sticky rice. Everything was tasty and nicely presented. Good ambiance, nice service. A little bit expensive (120RMB for dish + dessert).

We arrived hungry and thirsty after a five hour rail journey plus one hour in taxi, ready to eat a horse and his dad! We settled down quickly even though they were sort of closed for the afternoon but the staff responded as though it was normal receive six people out of hours. The food was superb, we ordered fish,... More

Worst place ever. Food is good but from now on you need to pay for water because it is bottled and labelled. Servings are getting smaller every year and the rice isn't all you can have anymore. It's now 6 kuai per mini bowl. Ridiculous. They know how to make money out of expats. If you're not sick the next... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
