The restaurant is housed in a very special little building in this nice area. The food was excellent and plentiful at first (about 5 years ago). The service under previous manager Leon was just excellent. Leon left about 3 years ago. Now food is still very good but quantity is sooooo little, even in this fancy setting. Service is so... More

Fantastic food, beautifully displayed and incredible tastes. I loved the wagu beef starter with creamed mushroom in the little cases and I followed this with suckling pig. The staff were very attentive and we enjoyed it so much we returned another night.

We expected restaurants at this tier and pricing to provide excellent service, food, ambiance, etc. however found that only the food lived up to expectation. We were a party of 7 people for a birthday celebration and were told after arriving that there is an extra charge for the surprise birthday cake we brought. Then we discovered there was a... More

bad service! the food was not reaching the level aspected by such noble restaurant . After wait 1,5 hours for a "paella" they provided a scorched and scraped rice from the bottom of the pot. In Shanghai, better to go to any Chinese restaurant and ,after spending 1/30 of the cost ,eat an excellent Cantonese rice.

We went for an anniversary dinner. First they put us in an upstairs room and closed the door. Just us and another couple. No background music, just uncomfortable quiet. We finally asked the waiter to leave the door open. Then the waiter did not know what a martini was. Ended up bringing me Martini and Rossi so evidently the bartender... More

This is doubtless an upmarket and very pricey restaurant. You choose it for a good celebration where you don't count pennies or euros or yuan. Situated in a large park between Zhiao Chabang lu and Hengshan lu, it is a large manorial house converted to a singing bar downstairs and two salons upstairs for quiet dining. The house is well... The restaurant is situated in a park and the wonderful building was owned by a Shanghai record label. They have some vinyl records on display in the restaurant. We ordered some white wine to start. The restaurant did give an extra appetizer for all, but I think this is just standard for them (not that we are special guests). Seafood... More

This restaurant really surprised me with its atmosphere, cuisine and service. Nothing really matches. The restaurant looks very nice and neat but there is no Spanish atmosphere. When we started our picking the food from the menu, there is not much good explanation from the server. Only one pasta was picked and they didn't have it. When the main entry... More

The restaurant, service and staff could not be better. It is quite frankly, the best restaurant in Shanghai. The food is simply stunning. You could not find a better place for a romantic dinner or just a dinner with friends. Go and try!

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
