Although you get amazing local cuisine in Shanghai, as a tourist, you might crave something else. I had an amazing burger - cooked to perfection ( medium/rare) and my husband had the chicken. Western wine is so expensive, but we had a bottle of Australia...More

I am living 15 years in Shanghai and Sasha’s is still my favorite hangout with the best outdoor seating. So come here and grab a drink in the Soong family residence.

Old standalone building that does look like it needs a bit of a refurb - bar/eating area downstairs, garden to the front and rear, restaurant upstairs. Food is solid and plentiful although the menu could be a bit wider. Quality of the food is excellent...More

Been going here since the 90's when it opened - seen many incarnations but it looking tired and not really designed to do what they are trying to do with it. Drinks are made with premade mixes so very artificial taste and music so loud...More

Initially we intended to go to the mexican restaurant that is just next to Sasha's, infact we though we were at the mexican because they seem to share the garden for outdoor diners and there is no really clear boundry between the two, at least...More

This is a nice spot for a pint and a meal. We ate there late night and had the lamb. Service was very good, better than normal in China. The beer selection was nice. The ambiance is great, an old historical house in Shanghai. I...More

Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly
governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French
Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that
is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While
it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will
sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their
mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area
seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet,

The building that houses Sasha’s Restaurant, Bar and Garden was built in 1921 and was the former home of T.V. Soong, financier and official of the Chinese Nationalist government between 1927 and 1949. T.V. played a significant role in 20th century history. He was a signatory to the 1942 Declaration by the United Nations, was instrumental in securing Chiang Kai-shek's release in the “Xian Incident” and was once reputed to have been the richest man in the world. “Paul” T.V. Soong was also the eldest sibling of the Soong Family, “the clan that changed China”. The Soong sisters often stayed at the residence and they and their husbands were amongst China's most significant political figures of the early 20th century. Soong Ai-ling married H.H. Kung (Chinese Premier), Soong Ching-ling married Sun Yat-sen (leader of the 1911 revolution) and Soong Mei-ling married Chiang Kai-shek (leader of the Republic of China). Sasha’s offers a unique western dining and drinking experience in this historical setting and the biggest beer garden in Shanghai. Lunch is available Monday to Friday and Brunch is available on weekends.
