My wife and I have come to this restaurant many times in years past and it was always something we looked forward to when vacationing in Monterrico. We noticed right away that something was not right when we were seated and when the server handed...us the menu, it was quite obvious. The great selections on the menu where no longer there. We asked what had happened with the Swiss family that had run the place for years and were told that the pandemic had been the reason they had sold the place. We did not stay to eat there and I am giving this three stars only to be fair to new restaurant that basically retained the old name. Please be aware that this is not the same restaurant that all these wonderful reviews before mine where written about and the menu has none of the items that the previous owner would prepare for you with such skill. In my opinion, with out meaning to bash the new establishment in any way, we have lost one of the great restaurants that Monterrico had. This is January 7th 2021 and the last review was written in February of 2020 and I see no reviews written after the pandemic hit Guatemala so no one has actually given a review to the new restaurant yet. I wish them well for the future but I am quite sad to find out that the old El Pelicano and it's owner are no longer there. Barry and Higia McMillenMore

El Pelicano is the best restaurant in Monterrico, no real competition there. The layout is open plan with a centre on the patio. Food is outstanding. On my first visit I had beef medallions and on the second visit I had fish fillet with bacon....Both cooked to perfection. House wine decent. Service very friendly and professional. I will be back again next year.More

Could possibly be best in country. Swiss owners ensure too quality. Also prices compared to home or Anigua low for this level. Seafood in particular exceptional. The three dessert choices all amAzing After doing nightly turtle release Right across road

Loved everything about this restaurant, the food, the ambience, the service! The fish was very fresh, the dessert was decadent, and the beef carpaccio was one of the best I’ve ever had! Such a lovely discovery here!

A 5 star restaurant in a 2 star town. Monterrico has its ..well sort of...charm but eating dinner here is highly unexpectedly 5 stars. We feasted on carpaccio, fish, bruschetta, burgers... all of it delicious. The staff was incredibly professional and the place was extremely...clean. I just never expected such a wonderful meal here. EAT HERE!!More

We were only in Monterrico for two nights and ate here both times as the food was so good! The restaurant isn’t the easiest place to find but it’s worth the search! The fresh fish was divine as were the shrimps and chicken kebabs! We...were a large group so service was slow but the staff made sure we had bread to nibble on and plenty to drink. The owner made a point of checking in with us all which was a lovely gesture. Will definitely be eating here again when we return to Monterrico!More

This was my food highlight within my 3 months living in Monterrico. Delicious meals, appropriate prices, good service. I love their gin tonics and the michelada. If you are a vegetarian or even vegan, they offer you nice alternatives as well - just ask for...it.More

There were 3 of us. My friends had the half portions of pasta and I had the almond fish. Everything was good. We were the only ones there. I think the whole town was having a slow weekend. I would go there again. It was...a little pricier than I expected.More

We went a few places before to have meal and honestly I was very disappointed of those places. But then, we discovered Pelícano through trip advisor. The place deserves the good reviews. Tasty, fast and good service, fair prices.
