Every time I'm working in Birmingham, I'll eat here. I went first to Chez Fon Fon but it was a 35 minute wait. I walked next door to the Highlands and got a high seat on the end of the bar immediately!!.. Great pinot to start and then a lovely girl sitting beside me recommended the lemon drop martini!!! It... Great waiter he was very knowledgable about about Gluten-Free options at Highland. However, very old building, and very small space to eat. Make sure you have a reservation.

Highlands Bar & Grill deserves its reputation. The meals, whatever one orders, is consistently well done. If you only have time for one dining experience in Birmingham, make it Highlands.

Frank Stitt studied the art of dining and cooking in France and Italy and that has translated to perfection in Birmingham

Outstanding food and service. This award winning restaurant has always been top notch. Be sure and make reservations but can sometimes eat in bar area last minute.

The Highlands is truly a place where you completely unwind, enjoy the best foods and drinks anywhere and enjoy the warm hospitality and atmosphere that the south has to offer! Not pretentious at all but rather inviting and friendly. An unique place where you can... More

When I was interviewing for a job in Bham two decades ago, I was taken for the obligatory dinner at Highlands. Over the years it's reputation hasn't diminished, although it is not my most favorite place. Service generally lovely. Bathrooms must be visited. And the single best item on the menu is the appetizer - baked grits. The recipe is... More

5 stars - A real treat for anyone traveling to Birmingham, Alabama. I can not even begin to choose a favorite course but the ceviche really made an impression.

Been eating there since the first week it opened & have never had anything other than a superb meal delivered with impeccable service. There's a reason that Frank Stitt has been a James Beard Finalist 8 years running and it's called "consistent excellence". We are fortunate to live in a city with a very vibrant and rapidly expanding culinary scene.... More
