Just terrific. My boyfriend and I have been to Mar Massas for dinner twice, both of which have been exquisite experiences- as somebody who understands quality of food and the importance of it- to say that Mar Massas so organically achieved that ‘quality’ is an...understatement. First, it’s got around 10 or so tables, small- very warm and welcoming atmosphere, super cozy. Lovely view of the lake, lit up by the lights of the surrounding houses by it. Connoisseurs will deeply appreciate the broad variety of wines available on their winelist. This place from what I’ve seen online by no means is targeted at someone on a budget, The price in my opinion is more than just, for what you get- but like everything, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. If you are used to huge portions of moderately good food and that is something you search, this again, doesn’t necessarily target that, at all. It doesn’t pretend to. When on a budget, a good idea would be to check the menu of the place you’re going to, before you go to it. I’d say this is an excellent place to celebrate special occasions. rather, it’s catered, rather, at people searching for authentically good Italian cuisine (and willing to pay the fair amount for that) Coming from Italian descent and having lived in Italy, it’s so comforting to be able to taste your roots, in a way that’s so natural, the execution doesn’t try hard to be fine dining but rather it’s the ingredients and the intuitive technicality behind the scenes of what comes to the table make it exactly that, you can taste that in the food. this place has something unique and raw about it, yet it made me feel like I was in a typical Italian place, in Italy. I can name countless ‘popular’ restaurants in my short time here that (very) unfortunately have been an absolute waste of money and overall very disappointing experience- this was not one of them. The squid we had as a starter was stupendously cooked to perfection and wonderfully accompanied by the bruschetta I am eager to come back to Mar Massas and sit at the table by the windows pondering (and salivating) which plate to order next, and beautifully enough the most negative thing i have to say is it will be extremely difficult to decide which glass of vino will be best paired with the immaculate food. Complimenti por il tuo lavoro ben fatto! Bravíssimo Ana Rita Ci vediamo presto!More

I've been staying in Florianópolis for over a month now (from New York) and Mar Massas is BY FAR the best meal I've had (twice now... I couldn't resist). I recognise the place is not cheap (over 1000 Reis for two, both times), however I...think it is more than worth it for such incredible food, expansive wine list, delightful ambiance, and welcoming hosts. Personally, coming from NYC the prices seemed an absolute steal for the quality, but I understand Mar Massas is an outlier in the area in terms of cost (and quality). The food is absolutely to die for. I highly recommend the Octopus (Polpo Oro) starter - one of the best preparations I've ever had - and give one of the bruschetta's a shot, you can't go wrong. The pastas are excellent, frankly some of the best I've had outside of Italy. I had the Spaghetti Montechiaro (both times), with two steak filet medallions, perfectly cooked to my taste topped with melted burata (it simply does not get better than that), while my girlfriend had one of the seafood pastas the first time, and the Tagliatelle do Tio Blasco the second - which was probably the best dish we've had there thus far. To top things off Mar Massas has one of the more extensive wine lists I've ever seen, with a superb and diverse collection including some true rarities. Most shocking, to me, was the discovery that the lovely host, Ana Rita, is both co-owner and one of the chefs. Our first visit she was performing all three roles, with the aide of only one waiter - truly incredible! I can't speak highly enough of this place: If you're in Floripa and want to experience the best food the island has to offer, you must make the trip. You won't regret it.More

The pasta was really good. The restaurant was very nice, would recommend going during the day if open since it had a beautiful view of the Lagoa. Dishes come in two sizes (small and large portion), we were a group of 6 and ordered three...small dishes and it was more than enough for all 6 of usMore

The restaurant is cozy, very romantic. The view is super nice, and if you can make a reservation ask for a table on the windows. The food, oh my, the food is superb. Me and my girlfriend had a gnocchi with pesto sauce and some...mignon. Maybe the kitchen is a little to slow, but I argue that for good food it is normal.More

I have to say that this is the worst dining experience I had! Food was terrible and the prices were ridiculous!!! We ordered bruschetta, we got one piece of bread for 25R$. And it was the worst bruschetta I ever tried, no taste! Pasta was...also horrible, the cheese, tomato sauce (sugo) and everything else had zero taste, I felt like I was eating plastic. This ISN'T fine dining, this is robbery! The thing that had the most taste was complimentary bread they served with pasta. We honestly couldn't wait to go out of there! Ambient and decor is also terrible, adequate for some average bar and not a restaurant, especially the one with prices like that. The only reason why would someone go there is to get robbed!More

Attentive staff, super expensive wine list with not a lot of every day prices so the only way not to get ripped off is "damage limitation" by ordering basic local wine. The food was tasty and it somewhat had the Italian slant (starters more than...mains for sure) but overall quite pricey for what it is. Would I go back? Not so sure, especially when you spend 3 times less and have a great meal not far from there.More

The place is cozy. The food and view of lagoa da conceicao are the highlights. The service is great and the atmosphere is amazing. We ordered bruschettas as entrance and 2 small main dishes. It was too much. Maybe one large main dish is enough....As dessert, you should try Taca do ceu (grape ice cream). It comes literally from heaven. It is an expensive restaurant but totally worth it. The parking is a point to improve.More

Wonderful experience all the way through. From a very unique, rustic-style decor, through a friendly staff to an exquisite, delicious cuisine! We ordered some of the house dishes, like sea food lasagna and spaghetti and the taste was divine! The restaurant has a great selection...of wines that go well with the food. The waiters are very attentive and they take the time to explain each dish in detail, and answer all your question. Truly authentic Italian experience! A slight downside are the prices, which we thought exaggerate for that region, but still was worth the experience.More

I had a late lunch with some friends and we had a great time. First of all, the view is awesome - you can see the entire lagoon and the sand dunes. Secondly, the food...YUM! We had a seafood pasta and lasagna but for me...the highlight was the salad. Unfortunately I forgot the name but if you are near the place - go. One bad part is that it closes early - perhaps because it is low season we had to leave by 5 so still needed to kill some time before our flight back to Sao Paulo.More

My wife and I were both of the opinion that the hype about this place from friends was misplaced. Yes the location could offer good views, but the design of the windows means you have a glazing bar at eye level so unless you are...short, you have to crane your neck to enjoy it. The prices are in my opinion way over the top for what the dishes consist of, and the level of service given. The presentation of the food is somewhat lacking too, more imagination needed, I had a bruschetta with a truffled cheese, the cheese looked it was hacked of with a blunt boy scout knife, my wife had a fungi bruschetta, this too was not anything out of the ordinary. Our mains again whilst well cooked they certainly did not have any wow factor despite the prices charged. The presentation of my dish in particular was VERY BAD, I had a lasagna which was served in the dish it was cooked in, which would be OK if the dish was presentable, sadly it was not. The pan in question was an old aluminium pan with many dents, layers of burnt fat and one of the handles missing; an apt description would be the a dish fit for the dogs dinner! We were not offered a wine list but saw there are wines by the glass on the sheet of paper that doubles as a menu and table cloth. Above the list of wines available was the name Moët & Chandon and whilst Reais 38.00 per glass is not cheap I mistakenly thought for Moët & Chandon this was reasonable. I noticed that there were cut glass champagne glasses in a cupboard next to us, these are however for either honored guests, or just for show, but not for us. On receiving our glasses of wine I thought the wine very sweet and asked if it was in fact Moët & Chandon, to which I was advised, no it is a local sparkling Moscatel. I did a search later and found it retails for under Reais40 a bottle. We decided that the desserts on offer were predictable and gave this a miss and did not wish to linger over a coffee either. Would we return, no, would we recommend no, was it a dinning experience to remember, yes but but not a pleasant one.More
