This small and cosy restaurant is located just across the street of the small Urca beach were the IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) has its school. The menu has nice salads and some very good meat, chicken, fish and pasta dishes. The desserts are generous and also very good. My favorite is the boar french rack and for desert the... More

People told us that this place was too expensive and not up to par. We challenged the hearsay and walked in, having reviewed the menu from the street. We picked their first item on the fish menu - Sea Bass with an herbal sauce and black rice, together with a chilean Sauvignon Blanc, reasonably priced. We had a great eating... More

With a picture of Brazilian Singer Roberto Carlos´s famous Blue Car, he lives in Urca. We found another Rio restaurant away from the touristy areas that was really great -- Julius Brasserie. It was recommended by a local and we enjoyed a delicious lunch here. The restaurant is small, so make a reservation. The owner/manager keeps a close eye on the tables and quality of food and service is high. The apple pie is amazing!

Quiet and attentive service, small bistrô, mainly French cuisine, with small but good value wine list. The couple had a very tasty dinner with ceviche, followed by lamb risotto and apple pie.. Friendly atmosphere, cosy.

We waited longer than expected for a table (I guess that its hard to know when people will vacate their table) but Julius served us with a drink as we sat on the wall overlooking the small beach. So glad we waited, the food was fabulous and at 35 Reais for two courses it was exceptional value. The beer wasn't... More

If you want to have a relaxing evening choose another restaurant. I went there with my wife and business associate. The food was not bad, however after a couple of bottles of wine, the establishment thought we were sufficiently impaired not to notice the extras added to the bill (over R$100). Instead of being appologetic about their "error" they became... More

Small place but excellent service and depending on the table you get you can get to see the ocean and the docks and boats. I ordered fish and it was very good. The only down side it is that I found many fish bones in my fillet (which I wasn't suppose to once it was a fillet) but I let... More

Julius, a Dutch guy with of course cold Heineken on the menu, for five years already in his nice not to big restaurant. It was some time that we went there but walking along we could not resist, also because he was smiling at the entrance. No regrets, very tasting food, above the "norma'l" level , the portions could be... More

Staying in Urca

Neighbourhood Profile
Urca is one of the oldest areas in Rio. Known for its incredible views of the city, the neighbourhood runs along Guanabara bay, providing visitors with an opportunity to watch the sunset from one of Rio’s greatest natural treasures: Sugarloaf Mountain (Pao de Acucar). It is said that the locals in Urca are “bon vivant,” which is one of the reasons the area attracts people of all styles and ages. Urca is the perfect place to take a stroll and appreciate the area’s beautiful architecture, enjoy a cocktail and some delicious seafood pastries at a bar, or bring a bottle of wine and enjoy it while sitting anywhere along the stone seawall known as the “mureta.”
