The food was tasty but it wasn’t worth the price tag. Even though the place is very nice, the food and service could be better. you can find a better option almost anywhere in trancoso. In addition, the funghi linguine was salty.

It was the very octopus I’ve ever had. That would be nice to enough to rate 5 stars. But the service was also very good and the Gin Tonic very well prepared with a local fruit. Congratulations.
It was a very pleasant meal. They have gigh quality ingredients, such as truffles. It was really delicous . The ambient is very nice with the pool. Its a good idea to have a reservation We definitely would come back. Please follow us on instagram...:@mapamunditravelMore
Really disappointed! Prices and service were awful, including the prices that are not worth at all. Go to another option, it will make it worth.
Being quite disappointed with food quality in Trancoso (basically local, unsofisticated dishes with bad service), we were surprised with El Gordo. Food was tasty, managed to develop flavor with local ingredients, and service was fine.
-- I went to El Gordo for the second time over the past few days. The first time, although expensive, it had been incredible. But that second time, I was very badly impressed with the restaurant. In addition to the exorbitant prices (my girlfriend and I spent R $ 550 per person), I had a very bad experience: I ordered the first dish of the chef's suggestions, the lobster with linguine in the truffle sauce. As the name suggests, very high expectations. A lukewarm (almost cold) dish arrived and when I informed the waiter what happened, he, with a superb air (he seemed to be doing me a favor), removed my dish and returned with the same HEATED. Yes, they put a lobster in a microwave or oven and brought it back. Unfortunate!More
the place is famous for its mediterranean food... and its fame is deserved!. the view is amazing and the experience is even better during the day
A good place for a special lunch At that time in Trancaso is complicated to find a place for lunch, they have good service and price a bit high but your are getting good quality food.
We have to say that El Gordo is an amazing place to dine and relax in Trancoso. The food , drinks and service were all first class. Our evening and experience was made even better by our server Anthony who’s knowledge and suggestions made it...such a special evening , he is so passionate about good food and wine. We can’t wait to go back!More
The setting, ambiance and potential are all great. The vibe, chilled music and atmosphere, perfect. That is until the owners decide to put cash and earnings before a guest experience for dinner. The open kitchen simply does not have capacity for more than 10 tables...at night, 15 at a push. Last night, even though we had to pay for the reservation with a deposit a month before, they had at least 30 tables. Most of them, including us had a terrible experience. Waiting, waiting, being told 10 minutes etc.. The poor waiting and kitchen staff had no chance and they deserve a medal for being so polite in the wrath of poor customer comments. The Manager, out of his depth, sweating due to so much running around and simply ineffective and no control. When our food, for a party of 4 came... Only two plates were served, then two minutes later another and then the final one. Of the four a medium-rare meat was raw; the pasta was cold, the other pasta dry and uneatable and the fourth dish 'eatable'! All three were returned and we asked for no replacements! I am sure when Trancoso is not busy this place has potential. If you are in Trancoso now, avoid at all costs. If you are coming and want to eat here, make sure it is out of season!More
We stopped here for a drink when we 1st arrive. We order Caipirinha and the bacon and scallops. It was delicious and the perfect way to start our visit. Great views and good food. Very relaxing.
A few friend and I visited El Gordo after walking around the Quadrado looking for the perfect place to have dinner. The food, particularly the steak we ordered was amazing. We all had to stop ourselves from ordering another. I love the ambiance at night.
The reviews weren’t great on the food here, so we stopped by for the amazing view and a drink. We traveled to Brazil to attend our son’s wedding and celebrate our anniversary, so we’ve had our share of drinks this trip😁 Ordered a caipirinha and...a Long Island iced tea. Worst drinks the entire trip. Don’t know about the food.More
We went there for lunch and had that best food of our time in Trancoso. The shrimp was superb, it had a sort of pink pepper sauce with queijo coalho (kind of Brazilian northeastern cheese, you should definitely try!) and risotto made of the same...cheese. El gordo's price was average to the region, so expect dishes around 100 reais.More
Great view. It came highly recommended, but we were disappointed in the food. Music is played very loud. Overpriced.
