Best curry in Kamakura hands down. The portions are large and the cost is reasonable. No wonder why it's so popular. It was a bit hard to find at first as the signage on the outside is in Japanese (not being able to read Japanese doesn't help) Follow your nose when you get near. English menu is available. Just ask.... More

We visited Caraway last week with our two young daughters, it was definitely worth queuing for! I've never had Japanese curry before but we all loved it, the pork and cheese curries were both delicious and good value.

Prior to our visit to Kamakura, one of our friends had suggested visiting a traditional style curry house for authentic Japanese Curry - apparently one of the specialties of Kamakura. We asked the very friendly and helpful tourism office for a curry house recommendation and they suggested Caraway. If you are vegetarian, do not bother, since the curry with egg... More

It was a hot day in Kamakura, so what did we want for lunch? Japanese curry of course! This one was highly rated so we decided to go look for it. Upon turning a corner, there was a line of about 10 people in front of Caraway. It must be good if people were waiting in line on a hot... More

This place was recommended by several Japanese friends who obviously love the tastiness of Japanese curry but not the work of making it from scratch. It's delicious and pretty cheap. It's very straightforward: pick your meat and it'll come in the same curry base with a heap of rice. It's a typically small restaurant with only a handful of tables... More

Actually curry was tasty but rice was poor.I hope this curry house serve us more tastier rice.I didn't find any alcohol drinks except plum wine on the menu. The price was really cheap.

Last order is at 7:30 but I think if you mention you will eat and exit quickly they may let you in a little past the time. Curry is flavourful, not spicy. Meat is minimal. I like the cheese and beef curry. Avoid the egg, it's tinned quail eggs not fresh chicken egg. Cheap and quick, authentic Japanese 'mild' curry... More

We are a Belgian couple with our two teenagers having visited Caraway tonight. When we went in the cook and waitress were quickly there to tell us the restaurant "was closing, or/ no it was full". It was 7:40pm and the restaurant had empty tables... Plus just before us we saw a group of 4 Japanese people entering the restaurant.... More

We stumbled upon this small restaurant while exploring Kamakura and wondered what people were queuing for. When we realised that it was a Japanese curry house we were delighted (it's one of our favourite foods) and the small wait was worth it. They serve several different curry types all served with rice, pickles and salad. We tried the chicken and... More

We caught a whiff of the curry while walking along the street where Caraway is. It was about 1.30pm and there was a queue forming outside the restaurant. We joined the queue and after 10min we found ourselves in this nice little restaurant. As it is a small restaurant, some people had to share the table with other customers. The... More
