Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent lamb curry, lentil soup, and garlic naan. And an 22 ounce Taj Mahal. Small parking lot, very friendly staff, exceptionally clean restaurant. Full bar, large eat in area and takeout. Closes at 10 PM on Fridays. The bad side is that the restaurant is...located/leased from a shady roach hotel. So, it makes you wonder if the cleanliness of the hotel impacts the cleanliness of the restaurant. I had a great experience here and would recommend going here. For a date night, I would go to the other two locations to get better surroundings.More

After a long day at a conference at National Harbor, 15 of us decided at about 8 pm to look for an Indian restaurant. Not knowing the area, the chances of finding one and who could accommodate us all seemed remote. Taj of India did...a good job and the food was good especially the spinach chat/pakoras. Would recommend the place and support from nearby residents who have an opportunity to visit them more regularly.More

I noticed Taj of India on Richmond Hwy in Alexandria and discovered that it's associated ( I think) with the other Taj restaurants. I did a carry out order and when I arrived, it was ready. When my family opened up their dishes all of...them were very happy with the food, the freshness of it and how it was still warm/hot. I was also happy with my dish and my only drawback was I wish they would provide more food as I thought the portions might not be big enough.More

I have been to this restaurant many times before and enjoyed the food. I love Indian food and I can handle some level of spicy. On Friday I went with a friend who was there for the first time. She asked one of the waiters...if the meat was spicy. He told her that nothing there was spicy. We sat at the table and I took my first bite of food, the goat with sauce. That thing was so hot that my throat closed up and I felt like I was chocking. I tried to cough. I could barely breathe. My friend saw my face and was very concerned. She got up and asked the man for milk. He said he didn’t have any, that they would have to go buy it. I managed to recover. Then I took a bite of something different, the vegetables with shrimp, and the same thing started to happen. My friend was very scared. She hadn’t even touched her food yet, and she was afraid to even try it. We decided to leave. The same guy brought us the check. We could not believe he still wanted to charge us. “Are you serious??Can’t you see she’s having a food reaction??”, my friend asked him. He argued that I’ve been there before and that their food isn’t spicy. After much pushing, he reluctantly took the check back and we left. The lack of concern by restaurant personnel during the whole incident was appalling. I will not be coming back.More

I have not had much experience with Indian so I asked the waiter about menu choices and he recommended the combination sampler plate. I thought that all the selections were very good from chicken to lamb. The wait staff were very attentive and friendly. My...overall experience was very good and I would highly recommend this restaurant. I will be back when I visit this area again,More

This is our first time at this restaurant despite living within walking distance (disgraceful)! My wife has some food allergies; tomatoes and garlic being two of them The server was wonderful in helping her select her dishes so full marks to him. We spent a...wonderful evening eating and chatting with the servers occasionally checking that we had everything we needed. We only ordered mains, so my wife had Tandoori Chicken (a half chicken wonderfully spiced and cooked) with the saffron basmati rice. Beautifully buttery and cooked t perfection I had the Lamb Vindaloo with a Bindi Masala both equally tasty with the vindaloo having a wonderful hot and tart taste. My wife was presented with a complimentary dessert; a rice pudding with coconut milk. A silky taste that she loved All in all and great restaurant for a good Indian mealMore

I’ve eaten at Taj of India twice recently. The things that brought me back were a combination of the good tasting food, the prompt service, and the decent price for it all. I’ve had both chicken biryani, and a grilled lamb dish on my visit....Both were excellent meals. The restaurant actually has linen table cloths and the tables are set with nearly a formal setting with wine and water glasses, and the place has a small outside seating area as well.More

As Indian lunch buffets go, this one is pretty good (not the best, but nowhere near the worst). The food was fresh, the naan comes out of the kitchen fresh to your table and the service is prompt.

Oh my goodness, what a flavorful find found at Taj of India! Choosing to eat more plant-based foods, I tried the Chana (chickpea) Masala with a 6/10 spice level. This was perfect as the spice subtly sneaks up on you with a warming goodness that...kisses your lips. Combined with the buttery basmati rice or the garlic naan, the meal was amazing!!! Even as room temperature leftovers, this did not disappoint. I am SO glad I veered off my regular menu choices to try a new favorite dish. This is something I’d like to try to recreate at home. Alas I fear I’m spoiled because THIS was the benchmark for chana masala and will judge all others against Taj’s take on this wonderful meal.More

My girlfriend and I had dinner here last night, and it was amazing! Butter Naan, Chicken Pakoras, Muligatawny Soup, Butter Chicken, and Chicken Tikka Masala were all excellent, and washed down nicely with a combo of hot black chai (tea) and Taj Mahal beer. Tikke,...Sukriya (“Fine, thanks”). :-)More

On a business trip to the area, I ate here twice, enjoying the lunch buffet. The buffet had a reasonable variety of food, which was quite tasty (considerably better, though, on one day than the next), and seemed fresh and well-prepared. The service was excellent....I would recommend it for lunch.More

You will not be disappointed. Everything is good here. I order from this place all the time, like weekly. Their butter chicken curry is high up on my "comfort foods" list. The restaurant and staff are very pleasant but be aware that delivery takes far...to long. So I recommend eating at the restaurant or calling in an order for pick up. If you live within the delivery area, order as early as possible because it is not likely that it will be delivered at the time you picked. I have not been to the location in DC, this review is just for the location in Crystal City.More

Dinner with friends on a Sunday night. Very small crowd and we were early. The service was prompt, the food tasty and portion sizes appropriate. Cost was quite reasonable for Crystal City. Dishes are not overly spicy, but the menu tells you that. If you...want it spicy, they can deliver! Quite good and worth another visit.More
