While visiting Alexandria, we were looking forward to Cedar Knoll on 10/22, after losing my purse late in the day on a trolly car we were delayed and had to cancel. I was sooo upset as it was our anniversary weekend. Shawn took my cancellation...call and was very sweet. They were completely booked for the next evening but we talked about an early dinner. She suggested arriving close to opening and all worked out! She was wonderful! and so was dinner, completely amazing. The autumnal bisque was incredible, the venison was truly the best I have ever had, and my husband was delighted with the oyster stew. We can't wait to go back!More

We made a reservation to eat outside and went with another couple. We did not order starters but began with wine and beer while selecting our choice for dinner. Nice wines by the glass as this suited our party of four. Our dInner selections included...rockfish in lobster broth, veal scallopini, and crab cakes....all were good. We met the owner/chef Andrew and had a lovely talk with him. We promise to return but do hope that the check-out service improves from our experience tonight.More

Excellent staff, great food, and amazing views. Highly recommend! Definitely opt for outdoor seating to watch the sun set while dining.

Our party of eight had a 3:00 p.m. reservation on Thanksgiving and we were not disappointed! After being seated in the log cabin room with a beautifully set table of eclectic fine china and views of the river and roaring fire in the fireplace, we...were served a seemingly never ending succession of delicious Thanksgiving favorites. The servers were excellent and right there whenever we needed something and happy to take family photos for us. Plus, we had plenty of leftovers that we boxed up for dinner the next night. Well worth the drive down the scenic George Washington Memorial Parkway.More

This tried and true colonial inn along the Potomac River near Mt Vernon reopened last week for dining. We were delighted by the view, astonished by the menu and had an excellent meal.It was fresh, creative, perfectly prepared, highly satisfying. Veal scollapini was tender and...hot. The sausage fitters were amuse bouche followed by scallops and 🦞 lobster, both tender and delicious. Try this local restaurant or come back to enjoy its charm. Thursday is free movie night on the lawn....You will not be disappointed!More

I have had many delicious brunches here and hope they reopen soon. They have a panoramic view of the Potomac river accompanied by excellent food and attentive staff. The emphasis is on local sources. Food is served served on beautiful bone china. Lovely flower abound....A perfect place for a special occasion, or even a casual dinner with friends.More

This restaurant has a nice location and view of the Potomac River, but the food is really not good. The crab cake sandwich was very bland and came with French fries that were cold. The salad was dressed with a creamy dressing that did not...compliment any part of the meal including the lettuce. The service was OK, although quite perfunctory and certainly nothing to write home about. You’d be much better off going to one of the restaurants in Old Town than driving out there only to be disappointed in the experience. We will not return.More

My husband and I came here for our anniversary on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant was empty so we had our choice of seats and sat in the booth by the window. It was so romantic with the cozy booth and warm fire with the...beautiful view. The service was good but we were surprised that they didn’t do anything special for our anniversary. The oysters were delicious and I loved the mignonette sauce. I had the wild mushroom tart and loved the parsnip purée and custard. My husband had the steak and really enjoyed it and the marrow potatoes. I also tried the pearsecco and liked its smooth flavor. Not too sweet. We finished with cappuccinos they were served in beautiful China. All of the dishes were served on beautiful dishes. We brought home the rich, delicious chocolate pate and it was enjoyed by our family.More

My husband and I were very disappointed with our experience. The food was very bland and lacked seasoning. We waited over 15 minutes to get menus after being seated. Not once did they refill our water glasses and we had to ask for silverware with...each course served. The dessert came with a wilted dried out mint leaf. To top everything off they marked us as a "no show" on Open Table. I DO NOT RECOMMEND and will not be back.More

Very disappointing. My husband and I went to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. First we waited over 15 minutes to get a menu after being seated. Even the waitress seemed annoyed that we didn’t get menus. The food was basic and lacked flavor. I ordered the...duck crepes and veal. Both lacked seasoning and my vegetables were undercooked. Our water glasses were never refilled during the 2 hour meal. We had to ask them for the corresponding silverware for each meal after they delivered the food. My husband had the bisque but was not given a spoon the same occurred when he received his steak without a steak knife. This type of service is unacceptable. The best part of the meal was dessert but clearly this was made ahead of time as the mint leaf was wilted.More

I don't know if there is a dress code, but it is a nicer place so you may just want to dress up.
