Start by taking a number outside the front door. Inside order the ramen and you'll be explained in English how it works. Be prepared for a short show and good meal (especially ramen itself is really good). Sympathic owner, definitely recommended after visiting the castle.

Absolutely recommend this place if you visit Kyoto. I have the world’s pickiest eaters, and they said it was the best meal in all of Japan. And the people there were fun and English friendly. Totally worth it!

It is all a show for the tourists. They ask what country you are from when you get in. It is to read the warnings in your language. You sit on the bar (after the wait on the sidewalk). You get a paper bib to...More

Just two words. WOW and WOW! Our family loves ramen and experienced different ramen eateries but have never experienced this type of setting. Its located away from the touristy area so you'll need a map or specific directions to get there. It's a small place...More

Definitely worth a few minutes queuing outside this popular ramen joint. A bit of a tourist trap these days, but they have the whole experience down pat with the flaming oil and video selfies to boot.. Those of you that really know your Ramen may...More

This was a great experience and one of my favorite meals in Japan. The fire show itself is really fun, the ramen was delicious and priced fairly. It’s pretty much just ramen with a couple of add on/combo options. We came as a group of...More

I was told about this place by a family member and after seeing the reviews, made sure I got down there nice and early. The staff were incredibly welcoming and efficient. The food was great (not the best ramen I’ve ever had but very nice...More

Let's be honest---you're there for the show. The ramen itself was nothing to write home about, but for a split second there, you wonder if you've just voluntarily given someone your phone to videotape the moment of your death. Fortunately, it's obviously well-rehearsed and you...More

This restaurant is Terrible to me. I do not recommend. 1. Negative cleanliness: mixed with food stock, open kitchen and rest room. employees even taste cooked fried rice for sale one by one. 2. Negative employee's attitude: they talk and laugh loudly themselves without attention...More

The ramen itself, i'd give it 4 stars. Soup is chicken and fish based; its light and not fatty. Loads of green onions, 2 slices of charsiu, and I added the obligatory egg (extra). The fire added a light smoky flavor which is great. Overall,...More

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its
blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered
shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street
bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home
goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center
is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and

I don't remember a parking lot. It was about a 10 minute walk from the hotel we stayed at.

They can. They make a vegetarian broth (I had this because I can’t eat seafood, and their regular broth is a mix of pork and fish stock), and you can choose not to have chashu (sliced pork) added to it.

Description
Menbakaichidai has been a staple in the community for 30 years - burning through the competition with its famous "Fire Ramen." I innocently assumed that the ramen earned its name for being spicy, as are most "fire" dishes in the culinary world. It wasn't until I was inches away from a four-foot flame, that I finally realized this restaurant had taken things to the next level. From yahoo travel post
