Good atmosphere, nice cold beer and friendly staff! Being just opposite our hotel, it was the perfect place to stop after a day sightseeing and for a nightcap after dinner!

I visited this pub about 6 months to a year ago and really enjoyed the atmosphere, not to mention I was estatic to find a place in kyoto for me to get my Kilkenny fix. Recently moved into Kyoto to start work and decided to bring my family who were visiting Japan from Australia to the pub for dinner as... More

This once awesome pub...The Hill Of Tara has turned into an izakaya masquerading as an Irish pub. The background music...a pub it doesn't make. The staff have been called miserable in previous reviews. This was not always the case as some of the staff are old timers but have become sour faced. I would guess it's the change of management... Dublin is probably the most comfortable pub space in Kyoto and also probably has the best pub food. HOWEVER...the main problem is the unfriendly - even hostile - attitude shown by staff to foreign customers. This has been a problem at Dublin for many years now and has been noticed by most Kyoto foreign residents. All of my friends agree... More

Nice and friendly Irish theme pub - couple of beers on tap - didn't eat but the food looked decent. Bar staff have a good level of English and credit cards accepted

The music caught our attention. The food, staff and atmosphere made us leave. The quasi 1 drink minimum and lackluster welcome should of warned us. Never again.

¥1000 for a mini IPA beer and the rudest staff I have ever encountered. The red wine is colder than you would serve ice cream. Try somewhere else first.

Beautiful decor, but the staff are obnoxious. Not a trace of an Irish welcome and nothing like standard Japanese courtesy. Made us move tables for no reason, without any apology. Never going back. きれいだけどスタフが失礼です。

This pub counts as "exotic" in Japan. It is a real Irish pub with Guiness, Irish and single-malt Scotch whiskey and typical (and well made) Irish fare--Shepherd's pie, Irish stew, etc. at very reasonable prices. There are a few ex-pats hanging about, but the pub is very popular with young Japanese, who are the dominant customers. The upstairs balcony is... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
