Good Spanish wines selection. Appetizers well served and taste is good. Paella is reasonable if you consider to be in Kyoto. Only 2 negative points: 1. 5 euro for a baby (dramatically baby) Sangria 2. Paella quantity not enough

Only 2 people for working, we wait so long time for have first plate. Order Paela with sea food and chicken but no chiken and burn. We paid 10.000 yen ... Very disapointed.

The wine and service was impeccable, they have some really nice wines if you know what your looking for. I especially like the castell del received oda. Beautiful with a light cheese platter. The atmosphere is smooth and inviting, and the staff maintain the perfect amount of friendliness and professionalism.

Nice place to go for a few drinks before dinner, wide selection of wines and sake. Haven't tried the food so can't comment on that.

We went here thinking it would be a good place for wine. WRONG. Both glasses we had were terrible and tasted stale. What's worse, we had a good view of the kitchen from our bar seats and saw a chef making paella. He cooked a variety of shellfish in a pan, and then when some of the mussels did not... More

Staying in Pontocho

Neighbourhood Profile
Though small by comparison, Pontocho is one of Kyoto's most spirited and memorable neighborhoods. A narrow street straddling the Kamogawa River, it is Kyoto's busiest nightlife spot. When darkness falls, Pontocho's many signs and lanterns bolt to life, making the area glow with invitations to passers-by to come inside and pull up a chair. Its restaurants and bars sprawl onto the riverbank, providing a friendly atmosphere and delicious food. Verandas are always filled with people young and old crowding tables, biting into hot yakitori or sipping cold beers. It is a culinary heart of Kyoto as much as one of its most laid-back, clamorous, and entertaining evening hotspots. Pontocho has more of an amiable vibrancy to it than an elegant one, attracting newcomers, local veterans, and everyone in between, in casual attire like sneakers and jeans.
