The famous kaiseki in town. Had lunch here during my last trip to Kyoto. Great selection of the seasonal dishes with beautiful presentation. The staff were polite and introduced us every dish in a very professional manner.

Excellent presentation and fine cuisine I've had in Kyoto. I rated it 4/5 as this branch is located in a huge complex where JR Kyoto Station is. Thus, it lacks the desired traditional Japanese building ambience, no garden of course. However, you can reserve a Japanese room which I think was quite nice.

We paid 120 Euros per person (around 140 dollars) for the Kaiseki menu to eat small pieces of fish and vegetables. So ridiculous. I felt cheated. I thought the Ikaseki menu should be a Japanese gastronomic experience, but this restaurant failed. Never go there again.

Paid 22000 yen excluding tax for a 9-course meal in a private room. Ingredients of good quality. Server was extremely polite and graceful. Spoke English as well, which was helpful and may have been because we booked online in English. No exceptional standout dishes, but highly recommended for the price in the Kyoto station area. Of equivalent quality to a... More

The dinner we had here was good and service was excellent as well. The restaurant allows young children if you book a private room, so that's what we did. The main dining area of the restaurant looks quite ordinary, so I can imagine some people being disappointed by the ambiance given the kind of prices they have to pay here.... More

This is one of the worst meals I have eaten - at any price! But $120 per person with no alcohol - added insult to injury. The food was so mediocre - there was not a single course that was acceptable. The decor was beyond sparce and shabby - my reaction maybe focus on substance of the food. But in... More

Outstanding, especially when choosing a private room. The tasting menu is quite expensive, there will something you won't really enjoy, but overall the experience is absolutely a must do for everyone willing to taste the real kaiseki dinner. Very expensive.

Came here on recommendation of the concierge at Granvia Kyoto Hotel. Booked the private room (thus an added premium). The price was on the steep side for their Kaiseki dinner for the quality and quantity of food we received. None of the ingredients justified the added premium over the "base" set, so next time, I would just order the base... More

Under supervison of master Doi, the service and the quality of food are unmatched! First the crispy garlic, just a great start! The shrimps made to perfection, you can eat all, including the head. The beef.... Oh, it just melts on the tong. Was so many times there and will go again when in Kyoto

We went to Kyoto Kitcho on a weekday night. The restaurant was slightly difficult to find even though we knew it was situated at Hotel Granvia/Kyoto station. We had to ask the front desk staff at the Hotel Granvia to help us locate the restaurant. I believe it was on the second or third floor of the hotel. We arrived... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
