Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My gut feel after entering the restaurant was that it was not going to be a great experience and I should have trusted this instinct. I ordered the chicken burger with tartare sauce and the others in our group ordered the cheese burger. We also...ordered a side of the fried chicken which was similar to nuggets but came out with a few pieces of lettuce and no sauce. The fake chicken meat was chewy, rubbery and tasteless and the only positive was that the batter had some flavour that wasn't terrible. They were in desperate need of some sauce to make them edible so I asked for a side of the tartare which made it bearable. Unfortunately, my burger seemed to be made of the same terrible chewy fake chicken meat as the nuggets and again the only redeeming quality was the lashings of tartare sauce. The cheeseburger fake meat was marginally better but they it was also pretty tasteless and the sauce wasn't as good as the tartare. To make it worse the fries weren't great either...not very crunchy but a bit chewy instead. I have no idea why other reviews mentioned this place as being romantic...it's actually tired and a bit dirty. The food reminds me of vegan food from 20 years ago when there were virtually no options and we were just thankful of having something that we could eat. Times have moved on a lot and there are now plenty of great vegan food options and excellent fake meat alternatives. This place just doesn't have any of these.More

Really cute little eatery, I had a fantastic taco rice and it was great value for money. It had a fantastic atmosphere that was cosy and warm.

I'm mostly vegan but i don't like places that don't use local ingredients. Then if i'm in Kyoto i expect to eat local vegetables, and not avocado or coconuts, or other. Too be vegan is part of a sustainable life style, and this place is...more about business. Food is good, but kind of small portion for the price.More

I think they’re good. The atmosphere definitely makes the experience better( l has a cozy romantic feeling) It’s expensive and the vegan burger itself was a little bland and falls apart, but the dressing they use on it was tasty. Also I wish they gave...more fries with the order. Expensive but definitely a must for a vegan in Kyoto.More

Eating vegan or vegetarian is not very easy in Japan, finding this little gem was a real treat. Beautiful food, we enjoyed a few meals there.

The food was good, even when I expected it to be more japanese, but instead they had burger and curries on their menu. The staff was very friendly as usual in Japan.

Sorry to say but this was the first food fail 6 days into our trip. Salad was a pile of plain lettuce, rice, a single small tomato etc. Again sorry, but this can't be even close to the 2nd best restaurant in the district!

I am not a vegetarian, but to accompany my friend who is a vegetarian I went to this restaurant. To my surprise, their burger tasted like a real burger with meat. The decoration of the restaurant is simple, but stylish. I noticed that many foreigners...come to this place.More

Had such a terrific lunch at Ain Soph today that we went back for dessert tonight! Gluten free clearly marked on the menu and the whole menu is also vegan. Service was amazing and so knowledgable about cross contamination with the fryer. Macha soy icecream...was INCREDIBLE and creme brulee was also amazing! Great coffee and atmosphere - right in the middle of the shopping streets so great for a mid-shop energy boost!More

Nice restaurant in shopping district of Kyoto, very nice staff who speak good English for those who struggle with Japanese language (like me), good gluten free options including soy Chicken and chips when you want something naughty. Little bit expensive but enjoyable dinner. Coeliacs be...aware, they use the same oil for non gluten free products so ask for the oil to be changed which they kindly did for me, thanks Ain Soph 👍🏻More

Simply amazing vegan food in the heart of Kyoto. Honestly, we were so tired of trying to make soba noodles work as vegetarian/vegan, finding AIN SOPH. was a true blessing. Plenty of options and good value for the price. Already planning to head back for...dinner tomorrow night!More

We got to the restaurant for dinner. Not being vegan but (only) vegetarian, we were sceptical about the vegan cheese, but every ingredient in the cheeseburgers we ordered was perfect- the salad, the fries, and the burger itself. We were full but not so much...that we wanted to hurl. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐More

Went to this restaurant for dinner. The staff first said there were no free tables and that we'd have to wait. When we agreed to wait, the staff exchanged something in Japanese and suddenly exclaimed there was a table free.. and apologised. We were surprised...to see two, not one, table free! After being seated, no one attended to us. We rang the bell at our table after a while, still no one took our order. Finally a staff came to attend another guest seated next to us, and we managed to get his attention! The food was mediocre, to say the least. The tomato based curry was too sour, and the green curry was too sweet. Both dishes didn't taste fresh. Overall, avoidable food!More
