Plesant atmosphere, in a tradition teahouse structure. Delicious tempura experience, which comes in a choice of only two sets (cheaper at lunch time - pricy in the evening). Better to reserve your seat; I was lucky to get one, but many did not. The only...More

One of the best Ryokans you can find in the Kyoto area, beautiful gardens and doesn’t get more real than this on the local food. If you want to have fish, tofu and miso soup for breakfast this is your place. We stayed there for...More

I thought I had eaten tempura before but never like this. So very lightly coated, each course melts in your mouth and never feels greasy. Small and intimate and the chef is right in front of you explaining each dish. Book in advance!

I stayed at Yoshikawa and enjoyed dinner in the attached restaurant. It's a tiny place - just 10 seats. The dinner was a lovely production with the tempura chef cooking directly in front of us and serving people around the counter delicious, piping hot foods.

Tempura prepared by master chef around u-shaped counter seating 11 persons. Fresh and delicate morsels of vegetable and seafood is lightly battered and fried in front of you. The atmosphere is intimate and warm. Not suitable for families with young children and large groups. Certain...More

We choose to eat at the bar and watch the Tempura Chef prepare our meal from beginning to end. As we were a tad early we benefited from watching him prepare the tempura batter as well as heat the oil and test it by flicking...More

They are amongst the most expensive tempura restaurants in Kyoto and require reservations, however, they have open counter space for walk in customers and serve meals at very reasonable price. Staff understood at least basic English. They only offer 2 types of course menu (3000...More

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its

We were only 2, we were seated directly. But it's a very small restaurant, so I'd book if I were you, just to be sure.
