Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a lovely restaurant! Authentic and unique atmosphere. So fresh and tasty food. It was nice to read menu even... In the restaurant you will be offered ale brewed according to an old recipe 👍🏻 Prices are more then comfortable. Strongly recommend 😊

I, like many, am wildly delighted with mushroom soup in bread, and the kvass is also good) for the first time we tried shuka - it was also very tasty))
There are no questions regarding the cuisine and atmosphere, the service is average, I can’t highlight anything.
But these queues are trash. Especially when the weather whispers: “stay at home.”
The owners know that they almost always have a queue of 40 minutes or more, and after 3 years they still haven’t thought through this point, would they expand the premises, add tables, or introduce a time limit for meals, as in many popular places.
2 hours for the eyes and ears to eat and roll out)

We came to Vyborg for the first time in our lives. And friends recommended this restaurant to us. Since we arrived early, we had to walk around a bit before opening, but already 30 minutes before there was a line of about 6 people. This is an indicator that this is a great place.
The restaurant greeted us with very beautiful interiors and medieval decorations, cozy, cute, historically attractive. The candle on the table was burning the whole time we were eating)
Drinks are served in earthenware, which is pleasant to drink from, and clay pots in which the soup is dropped.
I also liked the music, which was colorful and pleasant for the meal.
The restroom was made in the same medieval style as everything else, although there was very little space and there was an unpleasant smell.
I also liked that the waiters were friendly and dressed in cool authentic clothes, they always remained polite.
A big plus is that the bread in which the stew is brought is not thrown away, but sent to an animal farm.
We took a bunch of photos, as this place should definitely remain in the memory of our little trip around Vyborg.
There are many vegetarian positions, since I myself am a vegetarian, it was nice to see this. Lots of vegetables. For example, I chose pumpkin cream soup in bread, potato wickets, served with pickled red onions and herring, delicious! There was also sauerkraut with Korean-style carrots and pickled asparagus, and I washed it all down with hot non-alcoholic grog.
Also a very tasty fish soup made from 3 types of fish and a funny lid of white bread on it, and cold and not very carbonated kvass.

We visited this restaurant at the beginning of summer. Perfect place. The inside is very atmospheric, everything is done in a medieval style. Without unnecessary ostentation, but cozy and good. The waiters are dressed in appropriate style. We were lucky and got into the Tavern without a long line. There was literally one couple in front of us. We took soup with bread, salad, meat, and cherry beer. Everything turned out to be very tasty. The food is pleasant, good sized portions. The beer turned out to be excellent, two glasses were not enough for us - we had to take more. By the way, there is an interesting story connected with this beer. The waitress, when taking the order, said that this cherry ale was brewed in the Kiskilya estate near Vyborg. She said that the estate was being restored, and one of the first to be built was a brewery. We became interested and 2 months later, in August, we came to Vyborg again - this time to walk not around the center, but through the parks - Mon Repos Park and the Kiiskil estate. We tried the beer at a tasting at the estate and were again pleased with the cherry ale, although the rest of the beer was very decent. We took some beer for ourselves and as gifts for friends.
Bottom line: It’s not for nothing that tourists love the “Tavern” so much. If you find yourself at a time when there is a large queue in front of it, you should boldly go.

Atmospheric place, medieval spirit. Excellent hearty cuisine. Warms in cold weather. Stew in bread, roast, chicken giblets, broths, herring on bread, grog, kvass, everything is of excellent quality. Fast delivery, excellent service. We visited for the first time on a weekday and were seated without any problems. The second one was on a holiday, I had to stand for almost an hour.

We booked in advance, we definitely wouldn’t stand in line. The dishes did not win us over...chicken according to a 16th century recipe - just fillet with prunes and not even soft. Monastery-style trout - swimming in cream. The portions are not large. Salad "Country Afternoon" with large slices of meat - how to eat it? In general, we got acquainted with this place and enough...

Fans of books, films, games about knights and witchers are a must) The inhabitants of the tavern endure the storm of emotions of the guests with a smile and calmness. And the emotions there are off the charts, fun from the lively music, satisfying from the huge portions, oh how tasty and intoxicating from the best hot ale! Fast, hot, fun and very very cozy. I came in November, came in after seeing a sign on the street without reading the reviews, no queues) I’m delighted!

We fell for the reviews and the excitement, foolishly stood in line for 1.5 hours to enter (on a weekday!), then waited another 45 minutes for food. I didn’t understand what the fuss was about: the food was normal, worth a B (the duck breast didn’t even live up to that), nothing more. Perhaps you won’t find anything better in Vyborg, but I won’t go back there even without a queue.

After an hour in line, not a very good meal, we were also fooled into a check, to say the least, with two extra soups! And that's for a minute almost 900 rubles.. (and we didn't check, paid , but the check somehow photographed ).. at home already looking at the photo and realize that something a lot somehow
We were two adults (2nd girls) and one child (4 years)... and somehow a lot of soups for us...
Come here after Eagle and Tails. But alas, a seat at 3-
Apparently wanted to make a copy.
Olde Hans in Tallinn. And it worked out. Also with a check cheat.

We liked the place very much: friendly, cool dishes, different local beers, unusual interior. The only negative part is the long line at the entrance. But I assume it is a part of conception. Can recommend this if you have an extra hour to wait ;))

We were at the weekend, standing in a pretty good line got into a grim establishment. Why this number one spot in Vyborg remained a mystery. Nothing outstanding except waiting 40 minutes for dishes. Sorry to waste time!

Yes, I mean it! One cannot make a reservation there but we were lucky to wait for just a couple of minutes. Their interiour is very nice - really sort of a Medieval tavern. A fireplace (more an attraction than real), dried onions and herbs hanging from it, barrels serving as some tables, huge wooden chairs, clay dishes, bowls and cups, a nice menu, old-style drawings of XVIth century Vyborg, mild folk music.
Service was hospitable, friendly and swift. Though the place was full it took us slightly more than an hour to finish our lunch and a girl even fetched chicken soup to our very hungry 5-year old grandson virtually in five minutes. Bravo!
We ordered meat salad seasoned with pink pepper, kind of local beef fricassee, baked pike-perch, buckwheat porridge and fricadelles on a skewer. Everything was excellent (fricadelles - just good)! The bill equalled RUR 1,850 (ca. USD 24) for us three including a boy. Very customer-friendly!!!
Recommended!
There's one minus though - neither wi-fi no mobile phone connection inside. So if you wanna use your gadgets be ready to go out.

Nice place, good food. Great atmosphere, kind of medieval style in interior and food. In this epidemic situation, one of the best places, that has a place to sit (outside).

I’m a frequent restaurant visitor. I can assure you that the people here are extremely friendly, very high quality of food and important, it’s clean too. I recommend to visit this restaurant. I almost forget to tell you that the atmosphere and decoration inside make you feel in the Middle Ages. A nice experience !
