STOLOVAYA # 1 KOPEIKA, St. Petersburg

We went to few of these as they are a chain. As we are not Russian we prefer to see how the food look like, so it's easy to choose what to eat. Everything here is freshly cooked and presented behind a glass display so...it's easy to see how it looks, read the name of it, with some of ingredients. Most of the places we eat in , the staff didn't speak English, so was hard to order, here they didn't speak English either but we were just pointing to the food we want, so I can say was a lot easier. The food was good, freshly cooked, as there were so many people eating there all the time. The deserts were delicious and drinks like ginger tea and juices with real fruits inside were really good. As we wanted to try typical Russian food, so many Russians eating here was enough for us to chooy that place. Recommend for foreigners wanted to try Russian food.More

A quick nosh after visiting the Hermitage Museum

My wife said this was a favorite of hers when she worked close by. Russian cuisine is featured, mid-range to 'cheap-eats' prices. We stopped by after an afternoon at the Hermitage. We ordered borscht, pelmeni and pirogi, and tea. The borscht was warm and tasty;...the pelmeni as expected, but if you order a pirogi, be sure to ask the server to warm it: my mushroom/meat/cheese pirogi was served room temperature and the bread crust was a bit chewy (tough). One orders at the counter and gets a number for the table and you food is bought to you when ready. I'd go back again, but I can't say it is a "must visit" cafe.More

BACK TO SCHOOL

Never ever have I tried anything so gross. Not edible at all and smells like yesterday's fish. I was feeling really bad after tasting that "food" so I just ran away. And by the way, CASH ONLY!!!

Stolovaya is everywhere

When you in stpeterburg, you could find stolovaya everywhere, offer breakfast,lunch and dinner. You can choose what you want even you and the staff don’t speak the same language. And it’s very cheap you could found locals also eat here. One more thing, only by...cashMore

Shocked by the bill; in a good way

Recommended to try even if you're not on budget; it is worth the experience. The amount of effort they put into the dish amazing, specifically considering the price point. Tips: the chocolate cakes was amazing and it is taste better than some other restaurant that...cost 5times more. I dunno what sorcery they put; but it was amazing :)More

Simple but tasty

You can only pay cash, no cards, keep that in mind. We choosed salad (vinegret), soup, meat, rizotto and paid 4 eur for it. The food was tasty. Quit big choise of food - salads, meat, desserts. Good budget place. I would come back again.

This place is disaster

It is not just not tasty, but it is not edible at all. It is disaster. For this price better to buy bread in the shop and some snack. I have tried a lot of budget price places, but this place is terrible. We did...not finish our meals, we went away. All cutlery is dirty and the plates too. You can not pay with a bank card. The quality of the food is below any critique.More

Great Value

This self-service cafe/restaurant offered great value and a good range of foods. The staff were friendly and helpful and the customers seems a mixture of tourists, students and locals. A great option for a quick, inexpensive taste of Russia.

Not that Bad

It's cheap and seems to be old, but the food is simple and offer a large choice of traditional dishes. We'll come again soon to try something else.

Do not recommend!!!

This is one of the worst place where I have been!!! It is cheap, yes, but the food is not tasty at all!!!!! The personal is very rude forcing you to choose food fast without even having a look what they have. At one point...you can't pay with a card, but you don't know it until you will come to pay. So you need to go around the building from another entrance where you can pay by card...More
