Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

How to drink&eat for 600RUB for 2 people? Go to mayak! No English menu or English speaking staff but at the end you will get some beer, vodka, borsch and sosage. We met two Russian guys who helped to order and as we didn't have...a table, they invited us and had an incredible evening with stories from the REAL Russia. The atmosphere is like in the communist time as they have pictures on the wall about 'famous' Russian politicians. The borsch soup was the best I have ate in St Petersburg.More

This hidden gem gave me one of my favourite evenings in Russia. I came here to meet with a friend. My friend was late and I ended up making friends with locals whilst I sat and had a beer. They kindly ordered for us and...we had some of the best food I had since arriving in Moscow two weeks before. The drinks were cheap and the atmosphere is authentic and exciting. This is not a bar for everyone. It’s an authentic Russia drinking experience.More

If you want to experience a small taste of the Russia that some Russians want to leave behind then this is the place in St Petersburg. As with most bars/restaurants in SP this is quite small, 20 tables max. No happy welcome....who are you stranger....Mumma looks at us with suspicious eyes (so cool) Just go in and take the next available table and look at the menu. NOTHING in English. Ok (Be Brave) Stand up and ask "Who Speaks English". You will be amazed who you will meet. Someone will always help you so now you can order. My wife and I are advised to get a few salads and the chicken dish. Note...you pay for food BEFORE you get it. Now for drinks, first round beer, next round vodka. Mumma is now happy...we drink vodka. Food is OK, vodka and beer are better. Kafe Mayak is an experience that you should enjoy no matter how foreign you may feel. You do not go for a food fest, you go to taste a bit of real Russia in the most European of Russian cities. Have fun and be Brave.More

This is the real thing. Smallish local pub/bar. Not even sure if there is any food available. We had some pints of beer and vodka. Really liked and shall go again.
