Fantastic restaurant, quiet and whimsical atmosphere, great food, gorgeous vodkas. Felt like we were transported back to C19 Russia - was magical. Highly recommend the lemongrass vodka! Spent two weeks in St Petersburg and this was my favourite restaurant by far. Hope I can revisit...again.More

My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant during our vacations. Eventhough we visited several restaurants this one disappointed us. First thing we noticed when we entered the restaurant is unpleasant scent of food. We though maybe it's some specific details of the atmosphere. But service...also wasn't very good. There were moments when presence of server was annoying. Most disturbing thing was that table with all glasses was next to us, so whenever new guests came server was collecting glasses which created unpleasant noise. Most dissatisfying thing was that my boyfriend got poisoned. He claims that Kiev Cutlet weren't very nice, most probably they caused the problem. My boyfriend couldn't eat for two days and had a high temperature. You can make your own decisions whether you want to visit this restaurant, but my advice is to avoid this place.More

A failed ( fake?) reservation with the online booking system Tomesto at Gogol restaurant has led us to this other writer... . We received a sms and email confirmation of our reservation with Gogol but the restaurant didn’t know about it. So when we arrived...there at the fixed time they said they didn’t have any reservation. They very professionally understood our disappointment and irritation ( in Europe these systems work perfectly), so the chief waitress offered us a paid return ride by taxi to Chekhov that belongs to the same management. When we got there by taxi at 9.45 pm ( the original reservation was at 9), I wasn’t actually in the best of my moods but honestly the restaurant is cosy, with a perfectly reconstructed dacha atmosphere. Live piano music until 10 pm, good food ( traditional beef or fish pelmeni, Stroganoff fillet, veal cheeks in wine sauce, two glasses of Russian red and white wine and finally ice cream, which was actually served with a great delay and when I reminded them they gave us complimentary homemade vodka). Final bill of 3.340 Rubles for two. Only two remarks: improve table service and staff’s knowledge of English. And of course : do NOT trust online booking platforms.More

5 it's our best: Position: 3 - not in the city center but next to a metro station Restaurant inside: 5 - a romantic quite place, it's like inside a romance Price: 3 - if compared to other restaurants it could be a little bit...more expensive, 35 euro per person, but the food quality is high Kindness and professionality: 5 - the waitresses are really kind and they speak a good English (the tip is automatically included in the bill, 10%) Cleaning: 5 Food choice: 4 - you can find the traditional russian cusine, like crab salad or mixed cold meet starter (wonderful duck breast) Food quality: 5 - the best Khachapuri, Saslyk was tasty but a little bit dry Credit card: OK Reservation: suggested, not so many tables Access for disabled people: N/A 35 euro each for three starters and two main courses plus two dessert and some alcoholic drink based on honey (like hydromel, it reminded the cider to me). Loveful experience, romantic and relaxing. Go and try, it worths!More

The decor and furniture style is from the period of 1900 and the waiters and waitresses dress from that period. It has a lot of charm with the decor and furniture making it an interesting experience. The menu is very interesting since is a mixture...of International and traditional Russian food. I had a traditional Russian salmon starter with small pancakes it was ok, but nothing really special, my husband had a traditional Russian salad on a black bread, really good. This followed for a crab salad ( a bit too much mayonnaise) and fish with mash potatoes/beet really tasty. It was not really busy, so we didn't have to wait long for our food, everything is freshly prepared. The whole ambiance in the restaurant was good and an experience. Do not miss this place.More

Went to Chekhov Restaurant for a birthday celebration on a Saturday Night. It was my second time at the restaurant, the first was 10 years ago so I was pleased to see that it was still going strong. On arrival it was just as I...remembered it. The decor and furniture style is from the peiod around 1900 and the waiters and waitresses dress from that period. It has a lot of charm with the decor and furniture making it an interesting experience. The menu is a mixture of International and traditional Russian food. I had a traditional Russian salad starter followed by a Goulash and a creme brulee all of which was excellent. I also like the rye bread Kvass which is very good. There is a delay in waiting for food in the restaurant which can be quite a wait but I think this is acceptable as the food is freshly prepared to order so I think this is a fair exchange rather than go to a restaurant where the quality is not so good and comes from a freezer to the microwave. The whole ambiance in the restaurant was good, there was even a piano player for some of the evening and we enjoyed the experience. If there was a criticism it would be the service in that there were several times when we wanted more drinks and it was quite an effort to get the attention of the waiter. He did acknowledge my request on one occasion and then forgot to get the drinks which I could not understand as there were only 4 or 5 tables with guests. It was if he was not really interested! This however did not ruin a good evening and if you are prepared for a slight wait for your order as it is prepared in very nice surroundings it is worth it.More

We arrived at this lovely restaurant on a weekday night for dinner and our table was only one of three tables taken in the dining room, therefore the waitstaff was not overworked or taxed in any way. The food as bland and terribly under-seasoned, but...it was the service which was the worst. The entire evening the waitstaff hid in an alcove and were either talking or texting on their cell phones. Anytime we needed some type of service, we had to stand up at our table and wave our arms until they finally saw us. It was a situation which was inexcusable and spoiled the entire evening for us. Please do yourself a favor and find someplace else to dine.More
