Food, service and interiors were all lovely. There were three of us visiting for 6 days in St. Petersburg and we visited Chekhov as our Friday night splurge; it was perfect for that purpose, and like most things in St. Petersburg, good value for a traveller.

Chekhov became my favorite restaurant in Russia for its gastronomic talent. This place was named after one of the top 19th century russian writers Anton Chekov and it is one of the very few places in Russia that serves authentic 19th century russian cuisine. Unfortunately, Russia lost much of is culinary traditions after the late 19th century, so this is... More

This restaurant is a very good restaurant with great ambiance without being too tacky or cheesy. The atmosphere was warm with really nice people helping to choose the dishes. Theme of the restaurant is the end of empire period; end of 19th century, beginning of the 20th. The interior of the restaurant is typical of that time. The fish cold... More

We had a delightful and leisurely lunch at this restaurant on the Petrograd side, loving created in the style of a 19th century country estate. The food was varied and excellent. We enjoyed the white fish appetizer, the cold pickle and cabbage plate, the cold borscht, the chicken Kiev, and venison. The homemade liquors (like a schnapps) were amazing.

The food at Chekhov was really good and the drinks with vodka were awesome. Unfortunately we couldn't have dessert because the waitress didn't tell us that the kitchen was closing.

If you want to experience traditional atmosphere of Russian restaurants from back in the days and try authentic high quality healthy Russian cuisine, this is the place to visit! Fresh traditional Russian salads, local pickled mushrooms, farm raised duck, lamb and veal, the most tender Luce fish kotlets and traditional Russian alcoholic drinks (strong but one of the kind!) were... The place is very atmospheric, waitresses dressed in 19th century imperial russia maid costumes, the service efficient and not too much, live piano on fridays and saturdays and the best chicken kiev I have had. It is so good that over the years (we have been visiting for many years) I am always tempted to try sth else as main... More

We followed our Lonely Planet guide visiting this restaurant as it was highly rated for Russian cuisine. I reserved by phone and were met by friendly staff traditionally dressed. My wife, daughter and I loved all our dishes and all fish was beautifully fresh. I loved my borscht and my chicken Kiev. There was a good wine selection and prices... More
