Kochi is famous for its katsuo tataki (seared bonito) and this is the place to have it! We had a set menu meal that was massive (sushi, fried fish, salads, etc) and included katsuo tataki as the featured dish. The bonito is seared over a...straw-fed flame and we got to participate in the process. Who knew a straw-fed fire got so hot? Lucky thing the bonito was stuck onto something like a pitchfork, so that we could stand back a bit from the flames. Once one side was grilled and bubbly, we flipped it over, and then flipped it back in due course for a final grilling. The hunks of fish were then pulled off and handed over to a chef who expertly sliced them into delicious pieces, seared on the outside but still raw in the center. So delicious! The meal was finished off with rice steamed with salmon and then topped with salmon roe and chopped green onions. Finally, a palate cleansing bit of ice cream. Fantastic!More
