Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A steal especially during lunch: 980y for the kaisen don, which came with soup, tofu and an appetizer. There was a limited English menu provided, which didn't include translations for the ala carte offerings. We came during a weekday lunch and were seated immediately. It...seems popular with both locals and tourists. Great find.More

Had dinner with the family. The restaurant is popular with locals, and serves very fresh sashimi at a very reasonable price. Occasional specials, including ikizukuri squid. The decor is deliberately made to look very homely, with plush toys and manga books available in the second...floor seating area. Note that the majority of seating is zashiki style.More

Visited for dinner with Wife and infant. We were there before opening hours 6pm and there was already a queue (we were third in line). When opened, reserved tables were called and we had to wait about 5 minutes before we got a table. Went...for a sashimi and tempura set, together with an unagi-don. Sashimi and tempura was perfect. The Unami-don was better. The unagi was thick and fleshy, and you get the whole with the head! Restaurant was packed within 30 minutes and walk ins were told to wait for about 40mjns and above. They have a second floor but limited seats on the ground floor. The place was crowded with locals. Restaurant was tolerant with our wailing infant and armoury of stroller and baby bags and mess!More

We loved this place even though there were a few dishes that had run out. We sat on the floor which was very traditional Japanese and the staffs English was great. Pictures on the menu was helpful too. ☺️👍🏾

Sashimi here is very fresh and delicious. The price is very reasonable comparing to high quality of fish. All kind of fish are great. My favorite is hamachi. There is no English menu here so we ended up ordering beef ball soup which is almost...uneatable (it is just my opinion, I am sure many people like it).More

Everything is right. So fresh fish, you can almost see your fish swimming in the small basins next to the entrance. So modest and friendly people. Also sidedishes, that belong to the menu, as tahu, misosoup are excellent and so fresh, we had nowhere before....And open on the sunday we visited the restaurant. Only hard to find. So, go along the Sorupaseo Ginza to cross Nagarekawa Street into Kusunoki Ginten Street en 25 meters on your right is the Izutzu restaurant. Is has a rather black outlook. There could be people waiting in front, but at luchtime, 12.30, we could enter immediately.More

Try Kaisendon teishoku 海鮮丼定食 - 1058¥. It's super delicious and worth your money <3. The raw fish is fresh, their homemade sauce is one of a kind. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Beppu for 2 nights (13-14 April) and decided to go out for dinner by ourselves for some sashimi. Followed Tripadvisor review for a short walk from our ryokan through a long arcade we arrived at the restaurant roughly in 10 minutes. Restaurant...was quite small, but staffs were very friendly, though some were not able to speak English. They called in the english-speaker staff (plus help from google translate), we ordered a sashimi set, tempura set and Unagi don (grilled eel on rice bowl) for 4 people. After a while, one staff came to me to inform about the price of Unagi don (only 2800 JPY, but not to shock us about it), which we were impressed about this. First two sets came quite fast, but Unagi don took a while (chef had to prepare fish, filleting and grilling, and served us by himself-very impressive). Foods were amazing, very fresh, taste awesome and come in great price.More

Not elder friendly as second floor is rather steep. Had to beg fellow customers to give up leaning chair father. Excellent food, but recommend reservation on Tuesday to Saturday since they were out of most by Sunday. Reserve seats for 1st floor if when with...eldersMore

Found this after navigating the neighbourhood. Great food at decent prices. They don't speak English and there was no English menu. Struggled to order, then found that the part-time staff there is a Japanese speaking lady from China whom we can converse with easily. Pay...with cash only. Food was excellent, the best we had in Beppu. We were fortunate to go there early. When we left, there was a queue waiting to enter for lunch. Limited seatingMore

Got there at 11:30 and there were already 5 groups ahead of us. Had the lunch special, which was a chirashi don set with about 8 kinds of sashimi in it. It was so good and fresh. Also, had the fish balls and veggie soup...for The kids. Broth was clear and had a great flavor. Service was quick and staff was friendly. definitely worth the visit. This place is busy, make sure you get there early. By the time we left, there was over 15 groups of people waiting!More

This place is frequented by locals-- with sashimi being the most popular item. Husband ordered a sashimi set (1500 yen) and I ordered the chicken tempura ..a regional specialty. It was quite edible and with two beers and a chu hi -came in at less...than 4,000 yen (for two of us). Very casual --so if you are looking for the perfect decor, or a romantic evening.. try elsewhere. But if you want a good, casual, local meal..this works. Employees were welcoming enough. Some photos help with ordering if you can't read Japanese.More

Izutsu doesn't look like much from outside; in fact it doesn't look like much inside either. However, the food was very good. It was recommended by staff of our hotel as the place they go to eat. It was a great recommendation. There is an...extensive Japanese menu, but a rudimentary one with pictures for tourists. We had the set lunch menu. It included a nice sampling of the menu including specialty sashimi and some lightly battered tempura amongst several other small dishes. There are a few counter seats (most comfortable for us) and a handful of typical low Japanese tables. Service was quick. The staff had only a few words of English but were very friendly and tolerant of our ignorance. There is no English sign. It is about a block off the main street on Sol Paseo Ginza pedestrian shopping street. You'll probably recognize it by the line-up outside. If not, another reviewer has uploaded a good picture of the exterior including a representative shot of the sign over the door.More
