On the way back from the shrine we stopped here for lunch. Only a few people were in front of us so we didn’t have to wait long for a table. It’s all about tofu here. Service was good but the food was slow in...More

Their set menu for ¥2000 is very worth it. All the little dishes are very tasty and work well together. The soy custard icecream stuff has 10/10 mouthfeel and flavour

A modern view on traditional Japanese cuisine. Everything was really delicious. The wasabi is especially fresh and tasty. Only my miso soup, though very good, was a bit cold. Definitely recommending the 2000yen menu. Great value and dessert is just fantastic!

We ate there last night. Simple, not a lot to chose from bento set menu. Tofu skin wrappers on the sushi instead of the transitional seaweed. Filling on offer was thinly sliced raw beef.. Together with the assorted side dishes and sensational house wasabi the...More

Passed by this little modern contemporary restaurant and decided to give it a try. The Yuba-roll (sushi rolls wrapped with tofu and Japanese beef) was just so great! Together with fresh wasabi sauce and dip with soy milk was definitely something new for me. They...More

Yuba rolls and the simple, modern restaurant environment in Nikko are what you should come to Zen for. Yuba is used around the sushi roll and yuba is essentially tofu skin or bean curd skin. When you're dining at Zen, you generally have two options:...More

One of Nikko's more famous delicacies is the tofu skin (more commonly known as 'Yuba'). As expected, the bigger street of Nikko is filled with restaurants selling dishes with yuba. However, Zen, is a more unique restaurant in that it uses it as a way...More
