Quick & simple: excellent place if, like me, you like noodles (soba). They even teach you how to properly eat them =p Been there for lunch.

Great place to enjoy some outstanding soba (something we cant get in the states). They do have an english menu and a very cute illustrated guide to eating soba in english, but the place does not feel touristy. Definitely recommend getting lunch here!

We came with high expectations but found it a bit disappointed ( in our opinion ) Traditional restaurant with nice atmosphere but we didn't find it too amazing.

I had hot soba with potato/seaweed/egg. My husband had the scallop tempura udon. Both very tasty and filling. Total bill was under 2000 yen.

So nice traditional soba restaurant. Very fresh handmade soba is served. I'm local, but I go "Ebisu"every month. Especially I recommend the Tempura + Soba.

My mum and I had lunch here today, and while it was busy, the staff were helpful and spoke english. We had the Udon noodle soup with chicken, which was really tasty- the only thing that let the dish down was the chicken "gristle" which was boardering on non-edible. The price for the soup was good (circa $8 aud) but... More

Old soba shop operated by the family's 5th generation. Soba made the traditional way each morning with the old master presiding over the kitchen and soba making process. The cold soba was perfectly cooked to al dente accompanied with a dipping sauce, scallions and wasabi.

A very old soba shop dating back to 1878 and now into their 5th generation, a newly wed couple. Nice cold soba for the hot summer and their tempura is delicious too!

English menu available, with a cute manga pamphlet to explain how to enjoy your hot or cold soba. There's also vegetarian options. Service was really warm and fast. Price was about the same as what other restaurants in the vicinity offer.

Ebisu was established as the first specialized soba restaurant in the area more than 100 years ago. The original Ebisu restaurant is located at San-machi Street which is in national important traditional building preservation area. The street is famous for its ancient township with warehouses for Takayama Festival floats as well as castle town, and a historical commercial district. The sign for the restaurant contains original glass pieces from when the restaurant opened. The interior design of the building also remains unchanged. Our restaurant has been cherished for generations as an established soba shop where customers enjoy old fashioned food and atmosphere, looking over irrigation canals through wooden windows, unique doors and authentic Japanese gardens.
