We arrived just before dinner opening time (20.00) and people were already waiting at the outside tables. The wait staff were pleasant, helpful, and gave us an English menu. Three of us ate spaghetti boldognese, fish with tomato and lettuce salad, and chicken with mushroom sauce and rice. We were very happy. The waiter asked if we were happy with... More

I was last minute looking for a restaurant to have dinner. As Argentinian I'm used to good bbq, so I wrongly assumed that this was a safe decision. I understood, following the reviews that it was not going to be an awesome experience but a regular. But this was not the experience. We order a traditional parrillada for 2. First... More

Very well located near a park and the historic city, they serve good food with a great service. The place is nice and packed of locals and regulars, always a good sign. The portions are a real challenge (as usual in Uruguay), but the taste makes it a good challenge!

My wife and I had tenderloin steaks. They were delicious and tender with all the qualities of South American top quality beef. My wife had a good wine but the choice of beer was limited to industrial bland types such as Patricia and Pilsen which was a pity as there is a micro-brewery in the town. At the end of... More

This place was recommended by our hotel and we were happy we went there. We had the fillet mignon one with mushroom and a side salad the other with pepper and potatoes, a large- one l beer and all came to 40$. And the portions were large and tasty. But i think i like the service even more than the... More

I am a barbecue lover, I went to this place to have a parrilla one day while I was in Colonia del Sacramento since it's in the top 10 restaurants in trip advisor. I ordered one chorizo (sausage) and an entrecote. The food was delicious but in my opinion a bit expensive. Service was ok, waiting times ok, good experience... More

I've gone to El Portón for years. The owners are from one family, and have managed this restaurant for at least two decades or more. They've managed to improve on an already good menu and parrilla. The servings are always generous, and are served hot by wait staff that are friendly and attentive. I take guests to Colonia from time... More

El Porton was recommended by hotel staff as good barbecue place. We were in a party of four and all of us asked grilled sirloin. Just my sirloin came tasty and soft.. all other 3 dishes, the sirloin came overcooked and hard. We called the waiter and he was rude... He asked if mine sirloin was good, and reply to... More

This restaurant serves a great meat, prepared in the traditional way in Uruguay. It is simple but the service is good. The menu offers a long list of meat options. Short list of wine and bear, but it does not matter. The city is not so big and therefore it seems it is the best parrilla of the village. There... More
