Wonderful food and views without the harbour prices. Lovely friendly staff, who can’t do enough for you

Our favourite restaurant on holiday. Wonderful food, great value, perfect location. Step away from the harbour by 100metres or so, and you will be rewarded with fabulous food, with prices that are surprisingly lower than the captive market just around the corner. Ockabasi might have changed locations due to the significant changes that are taking place in Side, but we were so impressed that we returned four times. Honest, friendly, great food. The homous really is as good as they say!! Our first time in Side, so we can’t comment on the old restaurant, but in its new guise, it really is the place to go for a wonderful meal

We came here as a party of six people for my wife`s birthday. We were warmly greeted by a gentleman in a red shirt (the boss) Our table was on the edge of the restaurant with a great view out to sea. The place is beautiful with lots of glass floored areas with ancient ruins on display underneath. The boss spoke to us about what kind of food we liked and we gave him a free hand with the choice of food presented to us. We were not disappointed as the starters were laid out as twelve different meze type dishes along with large puffy breads. The mains were also served this way as large sharing dishes which included prawns, chicken, beef, vegetables and many other food types. There was plenty food for all with each and every one of the dishes as good as the next. The staff were amazing and well presented. When we finished our meal the staff appeared with a large platter of fresh fruit along with sparklers and fireworks singing happy birthday to my wife, a nice touch to finish off our wonderful dinner. All in amazing service in a beautiful restaurant with everyone well fed, two bottles of wine along with many Efes beers this is amazing value at 4100 Lira for 6 people. The Kamer Ocakbasl is in our opinion THE NUMBER ONE restaurant in the area.

WOW, WOW, WOW - Amazing Restaurant

Amazing restaurant with the friendliest staff and best quality food. The new location is spectacular. Loved the old location but this is a step up. Huseyin and his whole team of staff are a credit to this restaurant. They recognised us from our last visit 3 years ago and welcomed us like family, they couldn't do enough to assist a disabled member of the group and also some tired children (putting chairs together to make a bed and providing cushions and blankets when my 6 year old fell asleep). We first visited during the daytime, to make sure we knew the new location for our evening visit(s). We had a few cold beers after the hot walk in and soaked up the atmosphere and spectacular sea views. We visited 4 times during our two weeks in Side and everything was perfect each time. The best meze and bread, the most succulent meats, the coldest beers, the tastiest cocktails (my wife recommends the White Russian), lovely red wine and tasty Apple Tea to finish it all off with, as well as a Raki... Thank you so much for making our nights in Side memorable. Would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. We will see you again soon.

Beautiful place with great food

I have been in Side several times since I was a kid. However I havent tried this restaurant until now. To be honest I think this is one of the best restaurants in Side, and even though the location is GREAT, the prices are not too bad. Cheaper than at the harbour. We had hummus as a starter (which is by the way the best hummus I have ever tasted) and also we got bread, ezme and cacik included. We also had a bottle of wine, water, lamb shank, grilled shrimps and two gin tonics (Henricks gin) and the bill was totally 1570 tl which I consider a good price in antik Side. The food and drinks tasted amazing. Service 10/10.

Best food in Side

Me and my husband have been visiting Side for years to visit family. We have visited Kamer Ocakbasi year after year, in their old location and their new location and the food has always been the best in the area. You’ll pay a little more, but for the locally sourced ingredients, amazing fresh flavours and lovely ambience it’s well worth it. I am vegetarian and they have the most amazing options for me, always happy to help and advise, the imam bayildi (clay pot stuffed aubergine) is so tasty, they also have lots of mezze, hummus, zucchini fritters and other vegetable dishes to cater for a veggie diet. My husband usually has seafood and says the prawns are the best he’s ever had. All the staff are so helpful and friendly, entertaining our baby; this restaurant has suited us both as couples and family with children. The sea view is beautiful. Also be sure to buy their olive oil from their family farm as a little souvenir. We will always come back here year after year.

Delicious, authentic food, lovely location and friendly, helpful staff

We had a delicious & authentic turkish dinner. The restaurant is in a lovely location above the shoreline, 2 mins walk away from the main shopping street. Staff were very welcoming and genuinely friendly and helpful with menu choices. Meze starters were just the right amount for our family followed by 4 different mains including Hünkârbeğendi, fish stew, calamari & grilled chicken skewer. Would return again without hesitation for authentic cuisine in a great location delivered by staff & owners who are, rightly, very proud of their restaurant.

Superb food in a stunning setting.

The seashore setting a short walk from the centre of Side is stunning, and we we’re at our places on the terrace in time for sunset. We had cocktails before ordering, and the had the traditional meze, houmous, and a shepherd’s salad, accompanied by balloon bread to start. All were excellent, and the houmous was our favourite. For our mains, my wife had the barbecued fish platter, our son the lamb chops, and I had the hünkar beğendi, which was beautifully spiced lamb stew served over smoked aubergine, and was delicious. We shared a crepe with pistachio, honey and ice cream to finish a wonderful meal. Great service from all of the team, but especially Mehmet. We will be back very soon and would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys traditional Turkish food.

Fabulous meal and evening

After a week doing the all inclusive hotel meals we were looking for a Turkish restaurant (not steak and pizza) in Side for an evening out and booked here on the strength of the reviews and we were not disappointed. Amazing evening and food from start to finish. As there were 9 of us, our waiter recommended a number of starters and then main courses that we could share as a table and all of them were fantastic. Beautifully cooked and the experience of the dishes being brought to the table in clay pots etc just added to the evening. Really wished that we had discovered this earlier in our holiday as we would definitely have returned for another meal and already recommended to others in our hotel before leaving. The setting overlooking the sea and the glass floors with the ruins below were the icing on the cake!

This is the best restaurant in Side – by far!

We have been coming to Side for 12 years now, and we first came here 7 years ago when Huseyin was in the original location. We missed it so much over lockdown and then last year when we came the restaurant was closed to move to the new location – the wait was worth it. The new location is stunning, and what’s great is that the food and service is just as great as before. Huseyin is the perfect host, he is such a lovely guy and so welcoming and genuine. We let him choose our food for us and we were not disappointed, the prawns were epic! If you are in Side, you must come here early on in your holiday because you will definitely want to come back. PS – ask Huseyin for some of his olive oil, he makes it and we always bring some home with us,

best overall dining experience in Turkey

We spent 21 days driving and flying throughout Turkey and dinner here was one of our best dinner experiences. First, the location was serene and beautiful by the water at sundown. The service was attentive, humorous, kind, yet not obtrusive. Mehmet, who was our head waiter, told us at the start that we shouldn't miss the best hummus, and we are so glad we listened to him. It truly was the best we tasted in Turkey, All the mezes were delicious, but the hummus was outstanding. For mains, we had lamb, cooked to perfection, tender and moist grilled calamari, and large, fresh salads, all also beautifully displayed. The meal was topped with a great bottle of emir wine. Mehmet also suggested a desert for my husband. I don't remember the name, but it was sublime ( he brought an extra spoon for me), The dinner was simply a wonderful combination of excellent service, delicious food, lovely ambiance, and fair prices. A great experience we think of often now that we are home and wish we could do over again and again.

The BEST restaurant in Side

As the title states, this really is the best restaurant in Side. The new location is absolutely beautiful, right on the sea front with the perfect surroundings. We’ve visited a few times in the past, and this restaurant is still as good, if not better than we remember. We had the ottoman pot on the first night, and then the lamb shank on the second night. Both delicious but my favourite was the lamb. Fell off the bone and cooked in a mix of delicious spices and vegetables. This restaurant is still ran by the same brothers as previously, and they certainly make your time special when you’re there. All the waiting on staff are very attentive and help whenever they can. I would highly recommend a visit here, you will not be disappointed!

Excellent food and service. I would highly recommend this restaurant in the most perfect surroundings….We had the meze to start, followed by the exceptional Ottoman Kebab. Our children were well taken care of with a meatball grill, rice and veg. I’ve cream, fresh fruit and a special cheese and pastry dessert finished off the meal. Including a bottle of wine, beers and soft drinks £85 in the most modern and perfect surroundings is great value for a birthday meal.

Best Vegan food with outstanding service!

A fabulous evening out for dinner at this perfect location for our VEGAN family of 4 (kids aged 12 and 10). I had read previous brilliant reviews on here, particularly for vegans. We booked online a few days before. We were not disappointed! We were greeted by Mehmet and his wonderful team, so attentive to our every need, making us feel very welcome at a seafront table. The customer service was excellent, an explanation of the various dishes included in the meze was not too much trouble. We ate humus, balloon bread, eggplant salad, sundried tomatoes with walnuts, chilli and tomato salad to name a few of the meze starter dishes. Main course was Imam Biyaldi and vegetable casserole which were aromatic and full of flavour. Brought sizzling still in the ovenproof dish to the table, the smell was wonderful and the taste was 'out of this world' (quote from our 10yr old - sometimes wary of new food!). Such deep, authentic 'traditional turkish' flavours, delicious 😋 This place exceeded expectations and we will be back! It's a must and great for special dietary requirements. Thank you so much 💓

The best restaurant (no, really!)

I have to be honest, we were pretty sceptical about how this could be the “best restaurant” along with all the other “best restaurants” that people have tried to coerce us into. But, actually this was quite possibly the best restaurant we ate at during our time in Side. They weren’t too pushy to get us in, the food was excellent in both quality and price, the atmosphere was perfect and the service was great/friendly. Mehmet was incredibly helpful in explaining the different dishes and advising us on what to consider. We would definitely return here, they are the best restaurant in our view. I can recommend the hummus, the Iskender kebab, and the katmer (dessert). Delicious!

Do not miss this place!

From the moment we arrived at this beautiful restaurant, we knew we were in for a treat! Food is absolutely delicious and the service is fantastic. Every delicious dish was served with a smile and we had a few lovely chats with the owner. The addition of complimentary coffee was very kind. This is the best meal we have ate in Turkey and we would highly recommend it to everyone we know. You must go!
