We had reservations for 5:45PM on a Sunday in the beginning of October and came early to have some drinks and appetizers at the bar for the half priced (on food) happy hour. I am glad we came early for happy hour as these appetizers...are top notch and the drinks were amazing. The bartenders were super friendly, nice, personable, knowledgeable and attentive. There are not enough words to describe the wonderful experience we had at happy hour. From the half priced oysters, kobe beef sliders, duck confit and manhattans, I am not sure how I had room for dinner. For dinner, my wife and I had lobster thermador and filet. This meal was exceptional as well. The service was good and the atmosphere of the historic place was wonderful.More

getting harder and harder to have a fine dining experience in atlantic city outside of the casino properties. under the latz family guidance, this was the grande dame of AC restaurants for a century. been eating here myself on a semi-annual basis for 5 decades....(yes, i'm that old). the first decade or so under dougherty management saw the establishment not immediately falling to a level of what dock's had long become: overpriced, hit/miss food with ever-decreasing portions, indifferent service. but it's pretty much fully over by now. it's essentially now the same kind of experience as dining at a houstons/hillstones. the wait staff themselves are one of the few bright spots left - longtime pros that are kind, knowledgeable about the menu and eager to please. but orders come out wrong, consistently, out of order, with small portions, none of it exceptional. like the soft-shells at dock's, you will find less and less food on your plate each time you visit. reservations don't seem to make much of a difference if you've got something to do afterwards, as on each of my past two visits i've had to wait 25 and 50 minutes, respectively, for our 'reserved' table. FOH could care less; manager on duty, 'heidi', just impossibly unapologetic upon asking on our table after loitering around the entrance for the better part of an hour. "it's a busy weekend, friday night....". i'm giving two points on the rating for the food still at least being well-prepared, the continuing professionalism of the servers, and the charm of the historic rooms (even as the hard product has needed a refresh for several years, too). no fun writing this. used to adore this place. but sadly, after maybe 50-75 meals enjoyed there over the years, i've made my last K&F reservation.More

The Knife and Fork is not like it use to be!!! We had a terrible dinner, the salad dressing had no flavor at all to start the meal. The risotto with seafood was a joke!! There was very, very little crabmeat, the few shrimp were...very small, the scallops were the cheap extremely small tough variety!! Very disappointing!! We ordered white chocolate cheesecake and without a word being said were handed some kind of tasteless pumpkin dessert!! After telling the waiter he just said I’ll bring you a brownie!!! Never going there again!!! Save your money, much better restaurants in Atlantic City than here!!More

I recently had dinner at Knife and Fork Inn in September, after eating their for first time during my June AC visit. It was so good, I had to return, and again got the Knife and Fork Inn Dinner, a 3 course w/ crab and...corn chowder, a tomato and mozzarella salad, and filet mignon, and lobster thermidor. Service was excellent, I didn't catch his name, but it was a younger guy with glasses, and slicked back hair, he was friendly, and attentive! Great vibe in this historic eatery and clearly a place locals gather too! My food was excellent, the only issue was the potatoes in soup weren't fully cooked, and a bit crunchy, which was disappointing. Everything else was excellent, the steak was cooked PERFECTLY, and the lobster was amazingly good. I highly recommend this 3 course, even though price went up since June by about six bucks, it is still a good value and so delicious!More

This was a great spot for a date night! The food was delicious, the cocktails great and the staff was amazing. We loved the ambience and the only negative thing was the rather loud customers next to us, but once they left, it was perfect....We ordered the Knife & Fork dinner which included three courses: a soup, salad and the entree of Lobster Thermidor and 8oz filet. We also had a charcuterie and tuna tartare. We did not leave hungry!!More

It would be no exaggeration to say that we have dined at Knife and Fork at least 50 times. We live in the area for five months out of every year: We celebrate the arrival of summer there annually, host family there, and mark other...special occasions often enough that we are recognized and greeted by long-time staff. It has always been my favorite restaurant on the island. The food is consistently wonderful, the atmosphere unique and historic, and the service almost always lives up to the establishment’s reputation. Tonight our server was new to us, and probably new this year to the restaurant. There were two incidents that were exceptional enough — and disappointing enough — for me to take the time to write about it. Before I go on, I will note that our order was taken quickly and the food and check delivered at the appropriate pace. However, when we were seated and greeted and asked if we wanted something other than water, I placed my drink order quickly and the server turned to find my husband still looking at the wine list. He abruptly turned the drink menu around while my husband was still reading the wine ide to show him the cocktails, then before my husband could say anything he said, “If you’re not ready I’ll go get her glass of wine and come back for your order.” We dine out frequently all over the world, and both of us have been servers ourselves. Trust me when I tell you that my husband was not taking too long choosing a glass of wine from the five or six white wines listed. It was jarring enough that I worried that we would be rushed through our meal. We were not – but it did foreshadow what would come later. After we’d finished our meal, we declined dessert and asked for the check. Our plates were cleared and the server left. A few minutes later he returned to the corner where we were seated at a banquette, with two clean wine glasses in hand. He nonchalantly set them down on the back of the banquette, directly over my left shoulder, then left. We instantly realized what he was doing — he was literally setting up the items to be placed on our table after our departure while we were still there. When he came back with the check my husband asked him what the glasses were for, and he smiled uncomfortably, then said it’s for the next table. I indicated my gratitude that he hadn’t also left a clean tablecloth and set ups next to me on the bench seat. These are small things that would not have made as big an impact had we been eating anywhere else, or not celebrating a special event, but they left a big impression under the circumstances - that of a fine restaurant in decline. The cuisine and environment were both still exceptional, but a big part of dining out – especially at a place like Knife and Fork — is the service that is provided. I would have been annoyed to have glassware put out awaiting my departure at a local diner … I certainly expected better from an iconic restaurant, and hope that tonight’s experience was an anomaly.More

My hubby and I have had dinner at The Knife & Fork a few times. Our latest visit was just a couple of weeks ago. We had a table reservation, but got their early and decided to have pre-dinner cocktails at the bar. We liked...the bartender and location so much, we decided to stay there for dinner. Our cocktails were great and the oysters and wedge salad appetizers were terrific. Because we weren’t too hungry after the appetizers, we decided to split the herb crusted rack of lamb for dinner. We also ordered two sides: the parmesan brussel sprouts and the goat cheese potato’s au gratin. Everything was delicious. Every time we come here for dinner, we enjoy our experience. If you’re looking for a good meal off the boardwalk, I suggest you try The Knife & Fork.More

Cocktails were very good, so were the oysters, food was average. One entree, the seared tuna. either didn't have the quality or prep that we expected. Not sure which but it was not the bright pink/salmon color that is typical of this grade tuna and...was somewhat bland tasting. Lamb entree was much better. Atmosphere was that of a restaurant that has been around a while, as this one has, and came across as operating in the past. Server repeatedly came by when convenient for them not intune to what we were doing. At one point during appetizers they came by as we both put food in our mouth and they said oops caught you at a bad time but what will you be ordering for your entree? Seems they should have excused themselves and came back later. This was typical of their interactions. At times they'd be gone for long stretches and other times they did a quick fly-by to see if things were going ok but really didn't stay to hear what we had to say. In our opinion the restaurant is fine if you are with a group but not a special occasion place for a couple.More

I recently tried Knife and Fork Inn for the first time while visiting AC for a week. This was on my list of places to try and I am so glad I stopped in on a Wednesday evening for dinner! I was able to quickly...be sat for a table for one. The server was friendly, bus person always had my water glass filled, and overall I loved my experience. I could feel the history of the building which was great! I chatted with the server about some menu options and she recommended the Knife and Fork Inn dinner, which included 3 courses, an excellent and tasty crab chowder, a fresh tomato and mozzarella salad (I actually typically dislike tomato but was able to surprisingly enjoy the dish), and then filet Mignon and lobster thermidor, their signature dish. I can see why, as it was so delicious, lobster was cooked perfectly, it was so flavorful and perfectly seasoned, and I loved every bite! The steak was cooked well, I asked for medium and it was mostly spot on, it was so tender, and tasted so fresh! My side was good too like a pillowy french fry. I would definitely return and recommend to others. The prices were reasonable in comparison to casino restaurants and everything was so fresh and delicious! Even my creme brule dessert was awesome! Awesome dinner and can't wait to visit again some day!More

We were six family members who ordered appetizers, drinks, entrees and dessert. Service was good and each course came to the table nicely paced. Unfortunately, the steaks were not juicy and close to dry. The banana chocolate burrito desserts were difficult to eat without a...knife and tasteless. Wish the dessert menu had better choices.More

OK, so we haven't been going there for 110 years, but it's obvious why they've been around for that long. Since we hadn't been there in awhile, we took a drive down there for dinner. My wife really liked her filet and the goat cheese...au gratin potatoes. Driving down, I had in my mind I was going to have a steak but when we were walking to our table, I saw the rack of lamb, which looked enticing. I couldn't decide, so I told Suzi (our server) to surprise me and bring either the barrell cut rib eye or the lamb. The lamb was delicious. The servcie is superb; exactly what you'd expect from a place like this. The team was friendly, attentive, the food runners did not auction off the food and Suzi, her trainee and the manager checked back throughout the night to make sure things were OK. Since this is a TRUE gourmet restaurant, the prices are what you'd expect, but well worth every penny. Too bad we live an hour away; we'd like to come back more often. When in AC, this is a MUST; a true legendary restaurant that knows how to do it right.More
