We were craving French food to match the French colonial atmosphere of Luang Prabang and this venue did not disappoint. Our soup was superb, the duck was delicious and the mashed potatoes were super yummy. Our red wine was the perfect complement to the meal and all the portions are just right The service was good and the atmosphere was... More

I find the food here very bland and crave more flavour and vegetables. A side salad or vegetables with the main course would greatly help the meal. But it has a beautiful ambiance and is a nice alternative dining experience in Laos.

L'Elephant has a well-heeled clientele and elegant atmosphere; a French colonial air permeates unapologetically. The menu boasts an extensive array of Lao and French fare, including several set menus with different courses and price-points. It's a place where French and Lao ladies clink red wine, couples reminisce and friends can count on an occasion. I tried a Lao set menu... More

Had the set menu even though we asked to see the regular menu - we just were too tired to pick a fight so go the "set menu" for lunch - much better restaurants in town. Get the impression this is where the tour busses stop.

We dined here on Sunday night and thoroughly enjoyed what we ordered. We had the pan fried Camembert, the beef fillet from New Zealand and for dessert the creme brûlée and the poached pears in red wine. All the food was fantastic but this restaurant is expensive. The staff were efficient and friendly. I highly recommend this place if you... More

Both my wife and I together with two ladies from our Tauck Tour agreed that the L'Elephant was a really good choice for dinner. The ambiance, service and food were neck and neck; excellent. Be sure to include it while in Laos.

I had lunch at the Elephant and sure I will be back on my next visit I had a chicken dish with fries, was not so hungry that's why I have to go back for more! Service was up to standard and the place is well looked after.

Our family of 5 enjoyed the onion soup, lamb chops, roast duck, beef stew, homemade ice cream and creme brûlée. Less successful were the cold ratatouille appetizer and the dough-y lasagne. I know we're not in Europe, but at a relatively expensive French place, I was a bit shocked that 2 people's main courses were served slightly BEFORE the other... More

We went twice, one to this restaurant and the next to its sister "Verte" next door. Preferred the V as it was a bit more casual plus you can get the entire menu of both at V. Good value for fine French food. Excellent service. Make sure you have a reservation of its high season.

This place was recommended by our tour guide. It was in a lovely setting and was packed on a Wednesday evening. That being said, the food was so so and very expensive. It cost over $100 for two of us and two glasses of wine. I would not repeat.
