Lots of choice of local dishes, come hungry as the expectation is that you'll have a little of lots of different things. Not much choice for vegetarians, strangely a recurring theme in Burma. The food is pretty average and left in pots all day. We ate much better local food during our month in Burma.

One of my fondest memories of eating in Myanmar - and possibly the best in eating in a local places. You just point with your finger to the different meat, fish, veggies that are ready made, loved by locals and foreigners and are extremely fresh and delicious. Oh yes, and cheap too. Don't miss it while in Mandalay!

Very busy restaurant which was a blessing as we shared a table with a German couple who proved to be great company. You have to chose 3 dishes from a buffet style table which is then whisked off to be cooked for you. The choice is so great that my brother in law and I ended up with 6 different... More

With the place being so popular with the tourists, we were afraid it will be different from what earned them the fame. First assurance that the decision to visit Shan Ma Ma is OK, came from our local guide who is also a foodie. She told us that it is one of two top places to get Shan food in... More

Our hotel recommended this street restaurant and we tried it out the same day. Staff were very friendly and the food is really authentic and delightful. There are various dishes and you can choose three out of them. You also get rice and a tasty soup. Try it out!

No menu, many tourists. GREAT food. Go there, eat what you like and enjoy. Besides the prepared dishes they also cook a la minute. Just tell them what you like. One of the best food experiences in Myanmar

I would say the only reason to visit or revisit Mandalay is to enjoy the amazing food they serve here. Tried all the vegetarian options and would really recomend the beansallad, nudelsallad and the papaysalad. And its cheap!

Mandalay is quite a hard place to explore on foot, so you either have to know where you're going and take a taxi or if you're lucky this place will be within walking distance - its in one of the cheaper hotel areas and close to the railway station. The open air kitchen is typical of local restaurants throughout asia... More
