The Alden Bar has for many years been a "Must Go" place to eat, drink and be merry but several years ago they did a major renovation, cleaned the place up to a nearly sterile atmosphere, did away with Live Bands on weekends, got rid...More

Hi Teri D., Not sure if you wanted a response. The Trip Advisor sent me a message saying you did. However, in short, I have lived in this area my entire life and began going to the Dockside and the Alden Bar when I was just a kid so I have seen what fame and popularity can do to businesses, especially restaurants when they change their "recipe" for what made them popular in the first place and if they downgrade the quality and service I am going to call them out on it. It's as if all the Dockside and the Alden Bar are concerned about nowadays is maximizing the number of people through their cash registers as possible and cutting more and more corners to make the most money that they can rather than providing a Quality Meal and Friendly Service. When I took some friends to the Dockside just three weeks ago they were geeked because they had not been there in years and though I warned them that the quality had slipped they still forced me to go and we did and they were completely disappointed about everything except the location. The Cod which used to be big fat pieces looked like popcorn shrimp and was 90 percent Batter Crust. The hamburger was as flat as a McDonalds Burger but with less taste and everytime we were ready for our next beverage we had to flag our waitress down as if we needed to remind her that we were HER TABLE. My friends, from Holland, MI said they should have listened to me and I told them Thanks for forcing me to go to a place I knew was going to be a disappointment. From now on and ONLY WHEN BOATING, the only reason I will be stopping there is for any drinks that come in a bottle as they are probably shorting on booze in the mixed drinks too as my wife kept having everyone try her Vodka Drink to let her know if they could taste any alcohol. It's just a shame that they and the Alden Bar are actually, knowingly doing business like this and thinking that nobody's gonna notice. The "Goddesses" (as they call themselves) at the Waters Edge Grocery in Kewadin now make The Best Pizza and you can either order them ahead of time for pick up or grab a slice when in there to get your other staples. Have a nice winter.
