Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was hands-down our best meal in Split! (Perhaps our whole Croatia trip). We first came here for lunch, upon a tour guide’s recommendation, and also ordered what our guide recommended. Food was good and the gentleman who served us was so friendly and nice....Then we came back for dinner the following day, and ordered all the stuff we really like - langostines/scampi, green pasta with seafood, black risotto - and everything was excellent!! We were so sorry that it was our last night in Split and went on to Dubrovnik looking for scampi and good black risotto - didn’t find scampi and no black risotto as good. And btw, pricing was so reasonable. And did I already say the service was impeccable, warm and friendly? Highly recommend! We enjoyed our meal so much we only took 1 photo : )More

Only had seven nights in Split but had to revisit this place - same dish on both nights! Excellent place and very good value. The Zagreb Style Schnitzel was superb and my wife loved the Chard Risotto. Waiters were very attentive and helpful and did...not rush you, despite a stream of disappointed people being turned away due to it being full. As usual in Croatia, smokers seem oblivious to the fact that they can spoil people’s meals by wafting acrid smoke everywhere, but this is in all restaurants and not just this one. We got lucky both nights and didn’t get sat next to them. Visit this place - at least once!! It’s fantastic.More

Horrible service, the waiter was not nice and not open to answering questions and recommending anything. Do not recommend.

Gorgeous dinner just outside the old town. The waiter was lovely and chatty, and the food was amazing. Lovely evening, thank you!

Great service with the waiter recommending a lovely croatian beer to wash down good portion of black risotto. The seafood risotto was more seafood than rice (but this seems common in Split with rice and pasta dishes). Great looking backstreet restaurant a bit cheaper than...in the walls of the Old Town. 👍👍👍👍👍More

We wanted some good traditional Croatian food and this spot is the kind we like- a tried and true Konoba with wonderful food and service. The restaurant itself is tucked back into a residential alley. The waiters were seasoned and professional. I had the seafood...risotto, my husband and daughter the cevapi and my youngest daughter the fish soup- all were fresh and prepared well. The food is excellent and will definitely return when we go back to Split!More

Good Croatian dishes and reasonable price. Nice partially covered outdoor seating area as well as inside. Pašticada was a generous portion and €15. Mixed salad €3,50. House wine €3.75 for 1/4 liter.

Awful service. We were able to get a table, but we observed people arriving later and politely asking for a table just to be rudely dismissed. Some items in the menu were not translated. Waiters taking orders were impatient, but then took ages to come...back with the bill. Finally, we asked to split the bill so we could get reimbursed later by our company. Staff harshly denied. Then, when we calmly explained why we needed it, one of the waiters (a bald old man) started yelling at us. Astonishing! Never had experienced this before. Avoid this place at all costs.More

The food was excellent traditional Croatian specialising in seafood. I had the green noodles (fettucini) with seafood and my husband Pasticada. Both were very large and delicious, the bread was soft and fluffy. The beer was cold and the staff excellent

Our experience at Kod Joze was great. The food is still mildly expensive like others in the areas but it is made well. We enjoyed the black cuttlefish risotto the most out of all of our meals and the prawns were great too.

We enjoyed a quiet, delicious dinner on a Monday at 6:45 pm. We only saw one waiter and one cook, and the waiter was so nice and accommodating. He wondered why we didn’t eat all of our food (the portions are huge!). We got the...Dalmatian smoked ham and cheese for the first course with homemade bread. I got black risotto, and my friend got the pasticada all for about 65 euros. (This includes two liters of sparkling water and 2 glasses of house wine.) Everything was delicious! The bathrooms were clean, and the terrace was pleasant.More

Wonderful experience here. Served by three older gentleman waiters, Kod Joze is an underrated gem of a place to eat affordably in Split. I had the black squid ink risotto which as wonderfully simple, yet homely enough to put a big smile on my face...as I kept diving back in. Together with a full pint of local beer and a delectable semifreddo with nuts for dessert, I was set back by approx 13EU or so. Definitely worth a visit.More

Hidden away but actually only just above the historical centre this place is worth finding. Choice of covered outside or cosy inside tables and a good balanced menu. We were surprised at how reasonable the prices were compared with other restaurants in the area. When...the food arrived it was well cooked and large portions. We chose a schnitzel cordon bleu and mixed grill which were both great, so large in fact we could barely manage mixed ice cream and creme caramel afterwards! It was our last day otherwise we would have returned to try the fish dishes. I did have a beef soup to start and it disappointed. I expected goulash and got a very thin watery stock but for 2 euros, when taken alongside the other meals, the overall score remains 5 out of 5.More
