This restaurant has just reopened after a complete refurbishment which has seen it expand into the next building and be completely remodelled to present a fresh modern look. One thing that hasn’t changed however is the quality of the food, which remains among the best...in the city. Previously, this family run restaurant had limited space inside and felt a bit cramped and closed in, but by knocking through into the next building the restaurant is now almost twice its previous size and feels spacious without being cavernous. The interior has been redesigned by a smart team of local architects and is modern and classy, while the exposed stone walls remind you the building’s heritage (it was the former home of a famous Croatian writer) The new, larger kitchen means they should cope easily with the extra tables the larger space provides. As for the food, the menu has been tweaked, but most of the dishes the restaurant made its reputation on, such as the fish plate for two, still remain. One superb new addition is a starter of red mullet done three ways - a ceviche style marinaded fillet, a fried breaded fillet and a red mullet crisp. Pretty to look at and very tasty. There’s also a new dessert that I was dubious about at first but was glad we tried - dark chocolate mousse with a black garlic pearl and olive oil. Sounds weird but tastes great! The wine list is also being revamped - we we had an excellent red from the island of Brač, just across the water from Split. Smooth, but with just a hint of tannin, it hit the spot for those who like a red wine with fish. We’ve eaten at Konoba Marjan since the current owner’s parents opened it in 2004 and are pleased to see the quality of food and service carrying through to its new, more modern, space.More

Service very poor, waiter very rude, tried to push most expensive fresh fish on us and overcharged for the fish that we had. Would not recommend this restaurant.

We recently visited this amazing restaurant on a couple of occasions, once for lunch and again for dinner. What can I say? The Octopus and chickpea stew I had for lunch is probably the standout food memory I have from my visit to Croatia, so...simple yet so beautiful. My wife was also in food heaven on both visits. The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly, and after our evening visit of yet more beautiful food and wine we sat down with the owners son who whilst being an immaculate host explained the history of the restaurant. As an example of Croatian hospitality I imagine this restaurant would be nigh on impossible to beat. We will be back!More

Tradicional and very good dishes! We tried the tuna pasticada, which had an incredible sauce, and the shrimp risotto also very tasty. 56€ for the 2dishes, 4 glasses of wine and a desert. The owner was there and he’s very nice although the waitress was...unpleasant.More

Excellent service, presented with a plate of the very fresh fish they had (tuna, swordfish, sea bream and sea bass I think). When we ordered the waiter suggested wine for each course (we didn't do this because we don't drink white wine), however we selected...a lovely local (Hvar I think) merlot. The fish pate starter was tasty but the octopus salad was amazing, perhaps not as traditional as other restaurants but by far the best we had in 2 weeks in Split. We shared the fish plate which was aldo excellent. Highly recommended.More

Best fresh mussels we’ve ever eaten followed by a fabulous black squid risotto. This is a little gem of a restaurant off the beaten track with an abundance of fresh fish and great service. Highly recommended.

We were looking for something local and we thought why not try this place which was very close to our apartment. We totally did not regret it. The seafood was so fresh and cooked in the way we love grilled. We had the mixed platter...of seafood of the day which the waiter will tell you. Along with all the delicious side dishes, butter rice, potatoes, salad...etc The waiters were very friendly and helpful. Everything was just perfect I wish we are there right now. Would go back anytime!More

Excellent service and possibly even better seafood. The waiter took time to show the daily catch on menu, and recommended a very very good local white wine.
