This place looks a bit shady but seriously the best soup I’ve ever tasted. Walter is super friendly and a passionate vegan. It was relatively cheap and I was so stuffed afterwards I could hardly walk. Well worth a visit 🤗
When you go to Walter’s restaurant, he will cook you a delicious, healthy and traditional Peruvian three course vegan meal. He will sit and talk with you (he speaks fantastic English) and is such a kind and intelligent man. The food is excellent, the company...fantastic and we keep coming back for more. If you are vegan (or even if you’re not) you MUST go and see Walter and try his amazing food. You get a salad, a soup and a main for very good value, and Walter always explains the local cuisine and health properties of the ingredients. Cheap, feel good and amazing!More
I stayed in Iquitos for a while and by the end of my trip went to Bananas almost every lunch time. The owner, Walter, was delightfully accommodating and friendly. Every day he prepared a varied, filling, nutritious and delicious menu.
This is the best vegan restaurant in Iquitos. Walter (owner, chef, and waiter) cooks a delicious 3-course-menu (salat, soup, main) for 15 soles mostly from fresh local ingredients. The place is not fancy and pretty small, but the quality and taste of the food and...the lovelyness of Walter (who speaks very good English by the way) makes it definetly the best place in town for vegans!More
This cafe is run run single-handedly by Walter - he has a great imagination for 'Veganising' traditional Peruvian food. He will stop and chat (English and Spanish) with his customers. The three-course lunches of the day were fantastic. On one of our days in Iquitos...we went on a full day trip and we weren't able to get to 'Bananas' before closing time. Not a problem - he told us to knock on the door whatever time we returned. This we did and he prepared us another great 3 course lunch. The place is nothing fancy but you're not there for plush decorations, you're there for amazing vegan foodMore
Friendly and personable owner who speaks perfect English.
The dishes served were delicious and original.
My set menu included a starter salad with Yuka cheese, a peanut soup which was delicious and a main course of a bean burger topped with guac.
Whether vegan or...not, it's worth having a trip down this mystical pathway to experience the treasures at the end...More
