We are staying in this hotel so we have short time for lunch we had it here. Bill if course is much expensive than outside restaurants, portions are also less. But good service and food was good. Menu has limited vegetarian options.

Small but nice buffet. Dined here for dinner and breakfast during my stay. The buffet was quite nice in the evening with delicious soup and bread with French butter. Had the beef dish for mains and potato au gratin. Very nice. Best of all was...the intern with the drinks trolley - I could take her home - the best gin and tonic I’ve had in a long time. Nicely made with lemon and freshly prepared cucumber. He skills and attentiveness are certainly a great asset to the hotel. There is a choice of outdoor courtyard seating or inside with air conditioning. Opted for the latter for dinner. WiFi worked very well and there was a good ambiance to the restaurant. Decor nice - loved the plates on the wall. Breakfast equally as good.More
We stayed at the Phoenix and on our forst night ate in the restaurant. I had the Indonesian buffet, my parter the nasi goreng. her meal was awful, something resembling chicken completely beige (not sure how it was cooked), and not tasty at all. The...buffet was just OK. Sates good, fish and chicken curry ordinary. Nice fruit. Not good valueMore
We were disappointed of our diner experience with to small BBQ to serve everybody and I guess lack of personal because the service was horrible. We went at the roaster and bear.
We had two dinners here, and happy to do so, as not so many good restauarnts in Yogya. A la carte was realy great and great to get a bootle of Prosecco for 515000 too. We looked at the buffet and it did not look...as exciting as one could expect, so we stayed with the a la carte and choosed Nasi Goreng with crab and Gado gado. Both excellent. Remember toa sk for the children's menu if needed, they have good offers for the young ones. Their Gin Sling is a bliss, and comes with a story telling!More
We got excited to visit this hotel because it offers a picturesque ambience and buffet dinner. The hotel has only one resturant so we settled for it. The buffet price is pretty cheap and needless to say the selection is quite limited. Restaurant crew are...very friendly and accommodating.More
We ended up at Paprika because there was a major storm and it seemed easier than going out. Ended up with a buffet dinner and there was a huge selection of different food. The food was generic with not a lot of taste. It was...tamed down for westerners which made it fairly bland. Such is the clientele. Was expensive for what it was but it was convenient in the circumstances.More
Paprika is located in one of the most beautiful buildings in Java. Unfortunately, it takes a bit more than that to run a restaurant. Our arrival: I was a guest at the hotel and invited my friend over for dinner at a Friday night after...a long work week in Jakarta and Yogyakarta. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was quite busy - so we were taken to a table that had not been cleaned after the previous guests yet. Great start, but something one could normally forgive - if it was not for basically being forgotten there at the dirty table. Noone came to clean the table - before I went to ask. Noone came with the menus - before I went to ask. Yes, it is okay that you recommend the buffet, but you cannot really just assume that people sitting down in your restaurant will have the buffet without even knowing what the menu looks like. And you cannot simply just ignore your guests like that. Upon the waiter’s recommendation - and because we were hungry after all the waiting - we did in the end go for the buffet, which was actually quite good. But when we returned to the table with food on our plates, the table had STILL not been cleaned. When I pointed this out the second time, the waiter scraped off some crumbs (but not all) after the previous guests, turned the cloths protecting the tables from the plates upside down and walked away. We did neither get clean napkins nor cutlery. In the end I went to get them myself (took two unused napkins from a neighbour table and picked up cutlery at the waiters’ station), and at this point I was seriously furious. Pretty much any street vendor on the island would have better service than this. So far, noone had taken our drinks orders either. Their wine menu is actually quite okay on paper - but as is often is the case in Indonesia, they did not have the white wine I chose. So the waiter suggested a red wine instead. Yes, I know most Indonesians don’t drink wine but if you work at the restaurant in the supposedly best hotel in the city, you must know the difference between red and white wine. In an attempt to save the evening - at this point I was utterly embarrassed for having brought my friend there - I went for a bottle of champagne. Which it took about 15 minutes to locate and which had obviously not been stored in a cold place. Yes, we did get a cooler, but the champagne was not at a temperature you would normally drink it at before we were done with the meal. I honestly find it pretty incredible to have such an expensive wine on the menu and not knowing how to store it. On top of everything, the waiter did also not know how to open the bottle, so to avoid someone ending up with a concussion from the champagne cork, I offered to open it myself. The experience hardly deserves one point - but the food was actually good, so I am generously going for two. I am also planning to bring my family to the hotel next week. I have had breakfast there twice, which - luckily - was a better experience than our dinner, so I am not so worried about that part. And I hope our experience was just because the hotel was full or the restaurant under-staffed. But in case we decide to go for dinner at the hotel, I will probably bring my own wine. I just hope I don’t have to bring my own cutlery too...More
Although we were staying at the hotel, we normally prefer to go out for dinner. But after Chef Risman, on our first night there, introduced us to the array of Javanese food we had not enjoyed previously, our plans were altered for the succeeding week!...Each night we returned for a delicious dinner, never repetitious given the array, but always available with our favorites, even when (like smoked salmon), it was not already evident. This is a very fine place to eat, thanks in most to the chef and his direction of fine staff.More
I've been living in Yogyakarta for twelve years now, since the hotel in which Paprika was located was still operated by the Mercure Group. In 2009 and 2010, I would regularly come here to get my Mexican fix, as they had quesadillas (looks like they're...off the menu now) when nobody else did. It was a pricey endeavor, but the food was good. When I finished my baccalaureate back in 2012, I took my family here to celebrate. Fast forward six years. I've got a son, three years old now, and I wanted to treat him to swimming and a special treat. So we went to swim at the Phoenix Hotel and had lunch at Paprika. Admittedly, there were mix ups with our order. He had wanted a mini pizza, but they brought a burger instead; for me, the waitress seemed uncertain what their cocktails included, so I ended up with a hot tea instead. But I'm still giving five stars. Why? The food is downright delicious, with quite possibly the best hamburgers in Yogyakarta. After ordering your meal, you get two types of traditional cracker (krupuk and emping), as well as some bread to whet your whittle. When my hamburger came, it was succulent, with delicious mozzarella cheese, beef bacon, and an almost salsa-like sauce. The two types of salad and the fries were plated together with it appetizingly, and offered the perfect complement to the meat. The price, although expensive by Indonesian standards, was well worth it; our meal came to Rp 264,000, which was much cheaper than a premium hamburger restaurant I reviewed recently. The ambience is great as well. As I mentioned earlier, this restaurant is located within a five-star hotel, which is built in (and expanded out of) the colonial-era home of a wealthy Chinese merchant. There are koi ponds, fountains, and stone and marble courtyards, with beautiful pieces of porcelain adorning the walls. The waitresses were dressed in attire inspired by early 20th century kebayas, while the waiters were wearing more westernized clothing (which, if they were going for an early 20th century vibe, would have been accurate). Every nook and cranny has a history that is felt as you are dining. In short, if you have the money to spare, make this a stop on your trip, even if you are not staying at Phoenix.More
Appreciated the history @ traditional artifacts in the hotel, @ resto Paprika setting. Particularly enjoy high tea wherever I am so was looking forward to this one in such a gracious hotel. Booking x2 adults @ x2 children started well at a beautifully set table...near the fishpond. Continued haphazardly after that. I was taking a photo so missed placing my tea order. Expected to be asked when I was seated as there was enough staff but.................so waited patiently. My daughter received her teapot @ x3 camomile teapots arrived for the children (2) @ a black tea for me. Explained I hadn't placed an order so wanted green tea which arrived in a cup, no teapot for me ha..ha.. Disappointingly the food arrived on large plates rather than tiered stands. The fuit salad cup looked appetising but was coated with a sauce that tasted like mayonnaise. The lone prawn in a small glass cup with lettuce looked @ smelt off. Scone, macaroons, croissant w chicken @ salad, mini quiche, mini salmon baguette, mini French fruit tart @ mini jam roll all good. Had to ask for serviettes. When we couldn't take the smelly prawns any longer I asked for the plates to be removed. One was, the one that was empty! After waiting a while I took the offending one to the waiter stand myself. Thought there'd be a hassle with the bill @ in fact was only charged for one extra children's chamomile tea rather than 2. Ended satisfactorily. Not the high tea I was hoping for given the hotel @ number of staff.More
Well decorated and beautifully set up in an open air courtyard. Buffet has a good spread and we loved the "Jamu" station. Staff are excellent and very attentive. Dinner has themed nights and we picked Java Cultural Night to experience their traditional food. Their menu...has a lot of varieties with both western and Indonesian food. Gotta try their Gin Sling drink with an actual bar tending performance in front of your meal! Great place to chill out with family and friendsMore
This was the most happy time in the hotel. An elaborate spread to cater to all tastes, multi cuisine and delicious. The restaurant serves Indonesian, Western and Chinese cuisine in an open-courtyard setting. The delicious buffet of brioches, muffins, donuts, different varieties of cakes, with...a lovely selection of fruits. You can create your own mix of juices with fruits & vegetables. The aroma of local dishes catch your attention while you can’t miss pancakes and waffles, omelets and scrambled eggs, made to your order and choice. Sushi corner is worth trying too.More
We were looking for a nice place to have some great Indonesian food and hoped to have it at Paprika, did't happen. The service was great though, very attentive!
Not always easy to find a high end restaurant while visiting Yogyakarta, this is for sure an address to recommend
