Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The food is actually okay but they definitely don’t have everything on the menu. So ask what they have and what they don’t have. One day I ordered a club sandwich. It took 50 minutes to make it. The answer to that was they were...busy. Excuse me. I’m the only one here. Especially the guys are so so lazy. They should be happy I’m not there employee. I’m not coming back.More

Going here was not planned we just happened to passby and decided to have lunch there and we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is surroundend with trees and a pool hence its quite cool and not humid. Its an open restaurant which is a plus....The food was very delicious and the service was outstanding. Will definately come backMore

The food was good but it took forever to arrive. I would recommend here if you are OK with waiting or do not have children with you

Booked and stayed in the hotel for 2 days this week after i seen few reviews on trip advisor " an home away from home". We booked there, as my wife had a training session with a government entity for few days . Let the...good things start first! as i didnt experienced the same out there. Good Experience - The restaurant is good with great quality at a low price with fresh foods cooked.Though i have been there in mombasa for long before, you wont look for a meal in Karogo(an good pub restaurant situated an km from there).Thats it. Bad Experience - Here I go!! - First Night room started well with no batteries on TV remote, and no AC remote, though i assumed myself, the hotel might be good with few worse cases like this.Though the hotel board says" Free Wifi" and i did enjoyed a wifi in most of the hotels(even a low class budget hotel) around the world, here WIFI is only next to their reception and not in any other rooms! - Next Day morning,we woke up at 06.00AM to get ready for 07.00AM taxi pickup, unfortunately no water in the tap and hot water too. i Gone to reception, and she assured me , it will be well and first day started with no shower! Then i dropped my wife at training center and back to hotel for a shower, so that i could start some official works, then the water start to come little by little at 11.00 AM and water height could reach only at wash basin level and not shower level.I managed to caught the water with a used water bottle and showered. - Second day morning continued the same story and this time i didnt informed the reception and we went out for training and outside works. As the training got completed unexpectedly a day before, i called the hotel by phone around 05.00 PM and asked for checking out. They said,i needs to pay the extra charges for late check out and then i have been told, that the matter can be discussed in person. - Then same day me and my wife went at 06.00 PM for check out. I requested humbly to the reception lady and a man to look for a discount on late check out, as we did got lot of inconvenience throughout our stay and we managed. But the result was too rude, that they cant reduce a single shillings , as its their rule! And at the utmost, she said is , that she can apologise for inconvenience! but not reducing the amount for late check out! My comment after all this is too simple. An business is a both direction customer relations! how come a hotel looks for a business with only a word " apology", whereby a traveller still needs to do a business with " losing money for no value"???? finally i frustrated and paid everything and get out! and the only thought in my heart was about mombasa which was a tourist rich city with great experience which now gone into a place of money looking businesses without adding value to tourists!More

Pontoon is the good place I found at last after trying few hotels in Mombasa like Palm Tree, Manson, Pride-Inn Nyali, Kigotho's and Leinmach House. Mine was a planned 1 month stay for work purpose. So I stayed in many as above but finally landed...in Pontoon for good. Initially booked through booking.com for 2 nights as trial. But later felt it like home, so extended for nearly a month. Hotel is very well connected on main Links road, Nyali. Public transports are a step away at main gate. A super market, pharmacy, petrol station, barber's ounge etc are just opposite the road. The Nyali sea beach is just 1+ Kms away from Pontoon. Famous City Mall, Nyali Centre, Naivas, Java house, banks, western union all are 2 Kms away where one can reach by auto for Ksh 100 or $1.00 only. Within hotel there is ample car parking available. Free WiFi. I stayed in room no. 8 which is at First floor and having a pool cum road view. Pool is good for fun. There is a Shooter's bar cum restaurant which is serving breakfast, lunch and dinner on order. Food is variety and good, however me being a pure vegetarian, options are few and limited. However the chef is an expert and understands my needs so prepares good vegetarian food with occassional good trials of new dishes. Manager is a lady named Poleen and receptionist lady Victoria and boy Eric are too helping by nature. In my a month stay all these people behaved just like a family member - ready to help. I recomment Pontoon to all travellers who are either for business or tourism, excluding those who want to stay on beaches. A must comeback hotel, at least for me and everyone worth a tryMore

we booked via Jumia on 5/05/2017, paid and arrived at Pontoon at noon, checked in and noticed the TV wasn't working ROOM 1, the receptionist told us its the remote battery that needed to be changed. The towel we got in the room was damp...and dirty, After complaining we got a replacement. We left the key at the reception for the TV issue to be sorted and left for a walk. Coming back to the room our things had been moved to ROOM 14, so unprofessional. When asked the receptionist said someone else had booked the room, how didn't they know about this before allocating the room to us? they had my contacts why didn't they call to inform us we could have opted for other places rather than the very damp room, no TV, insects coming in through the door, broken window, cold water, had a long night. couldn't wait for the morning to come, breakfast wasn't served in time also by 7 am we were at the restaurant left at 7.30 am and we left very disappointed. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!More

Dinner and drinks was great, but very pricey! Breakfast was a choice of a few things with the exception of fruits. Rooms are not clean as expected, I doubted whether they paid attention to details when cleaning. Missed a towel in my room one evening....Staff at the reception weren't very customer focused, I'd wait there, for a while before someone attended to me and worse still they'd use a master key to open rooms for you! Staff at the restaurant and bar were quite friendly though. One problem, flies and mosquitoes! U need to be covered in the room, bar and restaurant. Best experience was working wifi and local channels on the TV (though the remote supplied was the wrong model) I'd pay less to stay here againMore

Visited for an afternoon to attend a birthday party. The food was good. Just had a rude shock when a number of staff kept walking about intruding on conversation. They also took many pictures and videos of us for no discernable reason and without askin...permission. Wasn't very nice.More

Where do i start: the sheets were so hard they felt like cardboard, we got eaten alive by flies at breakfast, the wifi in our room didn't work and the staff is horrible. When we checked in they asked us what valuables we had with...us. As I found this question rather strange I went on tripadvisor and found that the staff sometimes steals valuable objects from the room when the guests are having diner or breakfast. Because of this we dragged all our stuff to the beach with us because we didn't feel safe leaving them in the room. I'm generally not a fussy person and I don't ask much but this was hotel really wasn't nice. The only positive is that they have good food but even that was seriously overpriced for what is was.More

First I fail to understand why I should share the same card room with more than 4 other rooms. It was always so annoying to keep waiting at the reception for the attendant to come and open your room for you. Reason, "other guests keep...losing their room cards ". Those are some of the issues that hotels needs to know how to control and address without having to inconvenience other guests. I wasted an average of 30 minutes for a two day stay siting at the reception waiting for someone to appear at the reception to open my room, for goodness sake everyone needs to have their own room cards. The rooms missed simple things like hangers and when asked they said they were already in other rooms. I honestly fail to understand that, why then are you a hotel, you should be able to cater for all your guests. The breakfast offered was very ordinary and boring, nothing to write home about. My loo also never flushed at all times.... I only chose this hotel just because of the location, otherwise there are better hotels even at better rates with good service and facilities in other locations that I would go for next time.More
