It was my first time with family and arrived at exactly 12:25pm and was received with the rudest hospitality. We were actually chased away and told to come in after 10mins because they start serving at 12:30pm.

Excellant food can't go wrong ever friendly staff Your order can be tailor made to your taste And if you need anything off the menu the manager is all ears and goes way out of way to ensure your taste buds are catered..

The food here is usually very good and they have always kept their standards high. However, I was quite disappointed with the most recent visit here. The food was average and the quality seems to have gone down. I am hoping for a better experience...next time.More

The hotel advertised a Sunday family swim & lunch at the Sher-e-Punjab restaurant in a local paper. As we had not visited the establishment for almost a decade, decided this would be good way to spend Sunday with the kids. Our first impression was very...good - the gardens by the car park are green and well kept and the hotel has some geese and peacocks who wander the gardens - this was great for the kids. On entering enquired at the reception about the rates for the Sunday family swim & lunch - was told we had to pay separately for lunch directly at the restaurant where we were directed. The Sher-e-Punjab restaurant is located underneath the reception and on walking down and opening the door - felt like entering a dungeon - dim, dark and frankly unappealing. Why anybody would want to have lunch on a bright sunny afternoon in such a place is beyond me especially when the beach is just metres away. Why not move the buffet to the beach cafe for Sunday lunch? Much better atmosphere and this would attract the beach crowd as well. The bar/cafe overlooking the sea & beach is new and is quite nice except for the music which is played at high volume - not suitable when sitting down for a nice meal and view. Does loud music attract the beach crowd? Not sure - how about playing some Jazz or classical stuff which would compliment the setting. The menu has a kiddies section which is good, however the food is terrible & expensive. We ordered a Ploughman's lunch and calamari with chips. The clamari was dreadful - mostly batter and not calamari and a huge plate of chips. The Ploughman's lunch was very small pieces of cheese and sad pickle with two little rolls of ham. Service was not very good with the staff listening to the news on the radio instead of concentrating on the clients. All in all a very poor show. The management/owners could do so much better but do not seem at all interested. Sad really as this hotel was once upon a time considered great. Might return in another decade but do not think the hotel will be in existence then if it continues its present ways.More

Located at Travellers beach hotel, environment of the hotel was warm and cosy..however we did not have a pleasnat experience as there was lots of noise from the table just next to ours who was celebrating a birthday party-lots of screaming and balloon bursting, as...it's located in a closed environment. I suggest they should have family rooms where they can host such events otherwise its a distraction to the others who have come to have a peaceful dinner. Apart from that put off the service was good and enjoyed the food too. Good variety though it was a bit overpriced!More

We visited twice at the end of February, both times for dinner. It was very quiet on Sunday night, only us and some Indian guests. The location inside the Traveller's Beach Hotel is OK but the restaurant is situated underground so there are no windows...and no outside seating which is a real shame in Kenya... I would feel funny about eating there during daytime. I found the service very pleasant and the food very tasty. A medium hot meal meant rather hot and both of us experienced stomach problems afterwards... not sure what was going on there. The first time I had chicken in a spicy tomatoey sauce which was great, as was the butter naan and sweet lassi. The Indian chai was lovely too. The only thing I disliked was the runny raita. Otherwise I think the meal was good value and extremely tasty. I rather liked the Bollywood film playing on the screen but some might think it's distracting. What was funny though was the dress code - one guy came in shorts and had to wear a sarong provided by the restaurant over his legs! Well at least he wasn't turned away :) Would visit again but preferably without the curry stomach experience afterwards. Maybe I should have chosen a mild curry?More

The first thing you notice is the smell. The place need a serious scrub, no more airfresheners. The food overall is what i call average for an indian restaurant. The food was cooked to order with no hot spices which was a plus. I ordered...the king prawn tandoori platter, the prawns were not fresh. The raita and dal mahkni was the highlight of the dinner.More

A decent Indian restaurant with good food, attentive and very pleasant service and reasonably priced. We shared poppadoms, two of the house specialities, (one mutton, one chicken wrapped in an omlette and covered in minced mutton), a mushroom side dish, saffron rice and a naan....The poppadoms were a little different from what I am used to in the UK, and the raita was far too thin and runny for my taste. The two house specials were pleasant and well cooked but not really memorable, some interesting spices, etc were listed for them on the menu but they didn't really come through in the taste and weren't particularly evident in the dish. We were asked how we wanted the dishes, as my friend is not a hot curry person we opted for medium, in practice I could detect no 'heat' in them at all but I'm am used to hottish curries and also spent some time living in Thailand a couple of years ago eating a lot of local food. Next time we'll ask for hot. I had two beers and my friend had one and the cost including tip came to 2,000/- each. Its a large space, pleasantly furnished and laid out but on the Friday evening we visited there were only 3 or 4 tables occupied. Our table was not far from the air conditioning units and we had to ask for the one closest to us to be turned off (which was done immediately) as it was too cold. They show extracts from Bollywood movies on a pull down projection screen, I don't know why as it adds nothing to the place rather it detracts as it looks cheap and out of keeping with the stylish surroundings, and especially as the dvd or whatever it was kept freezing, at one stage the frozen image was on the screen for 15 minutes or so. The music from the dvd's was fine and added to the atmosphere, but I would suggest losing the screen. All in all a very decent Indian, that in the UK would probably only warrant 3 stars but I have awarded 4 here in at the coast in Kenya. As I write this the restuarant is averaging 3.5 stars which feels about rightMore

Have been once for Sunday lunch time Buffet and twice in the evening. Lunch time Buffet was awful but am glad I went again in the evening (twice recently). Food was very good and can only speak as I find but the service was excellent.....Very good value for money and it is on my list to visit every couple of months or so. A/C can be a bit nippy but they turned it down for us. Strongly recommend.More

I have a very bad experience with the service they offered. The staff is RUDE. I have been to this restaurant before even but this time round I fount the success of the food has gone in the head of the staff. I entered in...the restaurant with my kids and I was told off that kids can not make noise, we don't intend our kids to make noise and definitely We will be concerned and make sure it does not happen. But the way staff said that is was RUDE. When we tried to tell her (Sylvia)she laughed NOT bothered , we did tried to tell his supervisor also and he brought a written note on the same. All the ladies with us just decided to go in the room and we sent the food in the room. I have decided never visit that place again and I will never recommend this place. Read the other reviews and was surprised why this restaurant was rated high. Restaurant was almost empty and we still experienced bad service. Food was average and I guess not too bad.. but the kind you get at any average restaurant. Would go again if...there was no other alternative!More

We are very regular eaters in Sher-E-Punjab. We even were offered the special discount card recently. 20% off The Restaurant has a dress code as it is inside a Hotel. Men no shorts ladies no mini skirts. You should wear long sleeve or have a...scarf with you as the AC can become very cold. We took a lot of our friends there already and did choose from the whole menu. I can say its all worth the money. Its delicious and always fresh and hot. One word its excellent. Atmosphere is good. Just a bit cool as it is underground but the food compensates. Nowadays they show old Indian movies on a big screen with nice back round music. To recommend from the menu. Starters Aloo chaat - kind of spiced potato salad papadum - with or without masala Main course - Murgh maharadja - chicken curry with Ginger and garlic in a gravy Chicken jalfrezi - Chicken curry with loads of vegatables in gravy Served with Aloo parathas or Naans. As drink we suggest to have sweet or sweet & sour Lassi as it reduces your burning sensation if you ordered hot! last but not least Enjoy your dinner!!!More
