Had lunch here recently & it was fantastic! The tempura prawns were excellent for starters. For our main course, we had chicken teriyaki with steamed rice and a plate of sushi. For dessert we had banana crepe with vanilla icecream. Everything was delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant. Also note that the restaurant is located in Lavington and not Karen.

I am not a epicurean or a foodie but after trying the food of Tokyo restaurant, prompted me to make this comment. Mr Shin the owner of Tokyo Restaurant, epitomizes the finest qualities of a gentleman and a chef. Highly courteous, polite and sensitive to client needs, his skills as a Japanese and Korean chef are superb. I ordered a... More

The outdoor ambience at the new location in Lavington is very serene. Probably the one place I've enjoyed eating good sushi in Nairobi....tasty and fresh. The prawn tempura and tuna/avocado salad is highly recommended. Pity that the restaurant closes at 3pm to reopen at 5pm; and without notifying clients. We pleaded to continue being served with drinks and they were... More

The restaurant is now located in the Lavington area. This place has a very mellow ambiance, perfect place to have dinner with friends or the Mr/Mrs. I truly enjoyed the crunchy salmon sushi rolls and the avocado tokyo sushi platter, mainly because I love avo in my sushi. Prices are quite fair. Indulge, try am sure you'll come out smiling.

Popular Japanese restaurant, the sushi here is great (had a veg combo with salmon rolls). Inside and outside sitting, outside is a garden, you sit under the trees, they also have private seating areas.

I was struck by the friendliness of the staff who set the tone for the rest of the meal. There is garden and restaurant sitting, which is great depending on the number of your party - the children can safely play in the garden. The menu is extensive with a variety of options. My friends and I enjoyed ordering sampling... More

It does what it says on the tin - it is a relaxed, friendly, down-to-earth establishment. The food is good. It is not posh or pretentious. It is kid and family-friendly. It is a large restaurant, but still possible to have intimate dinners. It has always been consistent. We will go again.

Don't go here very often... Shame really as it is just down the road.... The staff are always pleasant and willing... The food can be hit or miss... The presentation is not good.. Comes in bowls and is cold by the time you get to trend.. What's wrong with the burners to keep it warm..the decor of the restaurant is... More

We used to eat Japanese food in Nairobi and has better restaurant than this, we didn't like the miso soup, the sushi and sashimi wasn't as we liked, best to use other Japanese restaurant in Nairobi.

Tokyo Restaurant is a Japanese/Korean restaurant that has over 10 years of experience serving top class food in Nairobi. Our founder and Head Chef is Mr. Youngho (Philip) Shin, who is one of the only licensed chefs in Japanese food in Kenya. He has over 30 years of experience in the restaurant and hotel business. Before coming to Kenya, he spent 10 years working for a 5 Star hotel in South Korea, where he learned his trade. With this level of experience, you can rest assured that food coming from his hands will be the best in the country. We recently closed our Karen branch and opened a new branch in Kolloh Road, Lavington, which will now be our main and only branch. We are open for dinners only for now, but expect to do the grand opening in September.
