Not real African... but who cares? I've been touched by their lamb dishes even though I'm such a hater of the lamb smell. And their African drinks are quite interesting.

Hi! Glad you liked the lamb! Just curious why you mentioned that the food is not African? All 3 owners, and the original chef who created many of the recipes, are South African, and the food we serve reflects the food we grew up with in South Africa. Of course, South African food has many influences from other cultures, notably... More

Initially found this restaurant here on Trip Advisor. We were looking for some thing different in the Itaewon area and went here for our anniversary dinner. We didn't have reservations but the hostess sat us at a great table on a busy night. The food was incredible. Unique, very tasty, cooked perfectly and full of flavor. We both really enjoyed... More

HOWEVER, it was still very delicious. I ordered the ribs and potato wedges and I received large portions of both. In fact, I was not able to finish the ribs as I was too full. The meat was soft and tender and the wedges had the proper crunch factor. Higher priced, but that is to be expected as it is Seoul... More

Great food! The spinach was amazing. The lamb and sweet potatoes were pretty good as well. I paid 25,000 for a great dinner! I would possibly come back

Very reasonable prices and quality food and drinks! Always busy, Braai Republic will consider reservations on weekdays, but first come - first served on weekends. Well worth the trip.

Louie, one of the owners, walked us through the menu, and through the history of the restaurant -- made for a personal and pleasurable experience. Delicious shrimps, home made sausages were great, and the lamb was first rate! Hard to find down the back alleys of Itaewon, but well worth the trip!

Having lived in Seoul for years, I have visited most restaurants both new and old. Braai Republic is hands down the best place for a hearty meal. The meals range from handmade meat pies to bunny chow. The meat platter is a go to meal if you want a variety of meat: lamb chops, boerwoers(SA Farmers Sauce), and maple sauce... More

Our friend was leaving and there was only one place she wanted to go, Braai Republic. I had the lamb potjie and it was delicious. Both the ladies had the lamb and they loved it. Braai is so popular I'd highly recommend reservations. Check out there web site for all the info.

After enjoying lovely Korean food for a few days, we craved something more familiar. I found this great restaurant through TripAdvisor. It is a lovely rustic place with a true African feel to it - including the South African background music, and Springbok rugby memorabilia. We ordered the lamb chops that were cooked to perfection! The sweet potatoes and cream... More

Staying in Itaewon

Neighbourhood Profile
Itaewon
Neighboring the immense Yongsan American Garrison, Itaewon was once shunned by locals as a seedy, red light district. But within the past few years, Itaewon and its surrounding neighborhoods such as Kyunglidan and Haebangchong have undergone a major revival to quickly become one of Seoul’s hottest areas. Here, trendy international restaurants dot the area alongside hip lounge bars and some of Seoul’s hottest club venues. After dark, Itaewon comes into its own as one of Seoul’s top party scenes. The crowd is a fascinating patchwork of all backgrounds and identities, including a small but thriving Muslim community (centered on Korea’s sole mosque), the LGBT community (with a string of popular bars and clubs), and a wide range of ethnicities and cultures scattered around. Those seeking a quiet respite should head towards the eastern end, in Hannam-dong, which not only has one of Korea’s best art museums, the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, but plenty of mid-range to upscale restaurants and cafes.
