After looking for a traditional Korean restaurant; we found this restaurant in a small alley. This restaurant has been since the 1960's and we were not dis-appointed since this was the best Korean restaurant we had. It was so good that we end up having to have our dinner there twice in our 6 nights trip. Tip: don't go to... More

Traditional Korean restaurant on a small alley off the main shopping street. Very friendly staff, with no English spoken. Tasty bulgogi.

Hidden in a narrow alley at the heart of myeong dong, it is located only a few steps away from myeong dong LINE cafe. Usually they have their mascott (an old man wearing ancient traditional travelling outfit with a pointed hat) standing at the front of the alley just so that you wont miss their location. But dont be fooled... More

A very good place for bibimbap and cold noodle. This restaurant is in Myeondong but it is a little hidden, so one must look carefully for the entrance.

So, this place is a bit of a hole-in-the wall as it's so easy to walk past it. Still, the food is well worth the effort. Sure, their famous bibimbap is good, but the best part of the meal was the Angus beef ribs which were so flavorful and fall-off-the-bone tender. We also had some abalone that tasted fresh and... One of the popular restaurants in Seoul, now being managed by the family's third generation, Jeonju Jungang Hoegwan has been in business for more than half a centuries already. It is said that they are the first to create the stone pot bimbibap, now the signature dish of the restaurant. The rice is being served in a hot stone pot... More

We traveled for an hour to get to this place as it had made several top bowls lists in Seoul. I was definitely expecting to be blown away by flavor but it just didn't happened. Definitely a fair price for the amount of food they give you.

With the help of the map and previous reviews I found the place just were they said, in a small alley beside SPAO, past the icecream and handicraft store. There were no westerns in the restaurant when I arrived only asians. It felt very local to me, I was not sure I was in the right place but I showed... More

This place is very old and there is an old man in traditional Korean costume waving u into the little alley. U will pass by an ice cream and handicraft shop before going into the shop. There is a construction opposite now, adidas i believe. And SPAO is next door It's been around for a long time.

I love its bi-bim-pap! I once visited this restaurant more than 10 years ago and it was still there! The food was served quickly, which I really liked. The place was full of tourists, not by locals. I felt it was bit expensive and the old man in the street looked miserable and I felt sorry for him.

Staying in Myeongdong / Namdaemun

Neighbourhood Profile
Myeongdong / Namdaemun
Arguably Seoul’s most famous neighbourhood and undoubtedly one of its most popular, Myeongdong takes shopping and eating to new heights, with hundreds of shops, restaurants, and cafes all stacked on top of one another. The rise in popularity of Korean cosmetics, fashion, and more has made this area a must-see for visitors who come and marvel at Myeongdong’s often frenetic pace and energy. Lotte and Shinsaegae’s massive department stores are also popular draws for both Korean and luxury products. The department stores, just like Myeongdong’s streets, are crowded around the clock. Myeongdong’s many street food carts are also immensely popular for their inexpensive and quirky offerings (French-fry-encrusted corn dogs, anyone?). The neighbourhood’s popularity, as well as its close proximity to other popular sights and neighbourhoods, makes it one of Seoul’s most popular places to stay.
