I have been visiting the Old City for over 30 years. I found this place to have very good hummus at decent prices. They aren't fond of speaking English, and the menu is in Hebrew. Still worth a try!

Reasonably priced hummus and falafel and salads. Good sized portions. Typical hummus place with fast food ambiance- but that is what you should expect. Not far from Mamilla Mall and Central Square so it is near all downtown places but on a quieter street. As good as hummus gets if you are not at Abu Shukri which remains the best... More

Ben Sira is a restaurant that I take all my visitors to Jerusalem to as it surely is the best hummus in Jerusalem (maybe even all of Israel). It is simple, delicious, fast service and a pleasant seating atmosphere. Nothing more to say except - go and try for yourself. It is centrally situated and within easy walking distance of... More

We visited around 9pm, place was busy, but service was quick. Don't expect to be served if you sit yourself down by the counter, you have to stand in line. Although after sitting for a while (meanwhile my husband was in line to order) they did ask me what I wanted to order. Very friendly staff! Absolutely the best hummus... More

We are American travelers from California and found this place online. Very friendly staff greeted us as we walked in. Seemed to be a very local place. English menus were available, although a bit confusing as to what comes with the meal. We recommend getting one hummus for each 2-3 people. Food was tasty and good quality , fresh. Recommend... We arrived in Israel at 9pm at night, and by the time we got through immigration, got the car, and drove to Jerusalem it was at least 11pm. Fortunately Hummus Ben Sira stays open late. We had mushroom hummus, with large pieces of mushroom, meat hummus which had a delicious subtle flavor (maybe cinnamon) and chick pea hummus. Pita wasn't... More

I was extremely excited to visit after reading all the reviews on TripAdvisor. My guess is that we visited on a bad night...but it was really bad! First, it was unclear whether you should seat yourself and not a single employee made eye contact. After deciding to sit at the bar, we waited for 15+ minutes to get any sort... More

I managed to try this place after just arriving to Jerusalem on an overnight flight from the US. As this was my first visit, this was a great introduction to authentic hummus/falafel. The menu is simple, but expertly done. As this was before passover, I only wish I could have visited here a few more times and not tried other... More
