Recommended by our Palestinian guide. Everyone on our trip was in love with the falafel at Uncle Moustache!

My 1st (but not last) visit to this very casual restaurant was as a party of 2 September 2016. We tried a variety of items all of which were excellent (exc. the omelet, which I thought was merely very good). A very friendly family run operation providing excellent value for a quick meal. Upon entering Herod's Gate it's on the... More

I had many a plate of houmus at Uncle Moustache back in the mid 1970's and I remember him with his big giant moustache and congenial presence. This place in the old city part of Jerusalem used to be a popular rest stop for hippies making their way to or from India, and as another person mentioned in their rating,... More

I have been there in 1969 when Uncle Moustache himself was running the place. He was a huge, friendly man with a big belly and a massive moustache. A lot of poor hippy travelers came there to get a plate of houmus for 50 cents or for free in exchange for a poem or some music, if they had no... More

It is not actually a restaurant, since it's just a stand at the small market just after the entrance to the Herod's Gate. There is no place to sit, however, it is definitely worth visiting and taking some food to go. Just get some falafels and hummus with pita bread, as many locals do, and go sit with them on... More

We visited with our tour group of 40 for lunch but they can accommodate well over 100. We enjoyed great salads from hummus (the best!) with pita bread to olives and pickled vegetables for the first course. Next, we enjoyed lamb meat balls on a skewer and delicious chicken. Very hospitable, generous hosts, including the owner with the biggest moustache!... More

Uncle Moustache is 100 metres left after you enter Herod's Gate and offers a limited but excellent range of food. I had a falafel salad in a pitta which I ate on the move. Fresh salad, wicked chilli sauce and great bread for just 12 Shekels (about £2). All visitors to Jerusalem should experience a falafel - the world's finest... More
