If you want to try Turkish version of Mexican, you may like it. Overall, we were looking for a break from kabobs, but it wasn't worth it.

We were in Istanbul with our boys and my parents for 4 days and one night we thought we would try the more touristy area to eat. Big mistake as the food, both mexican and turkish were very poor and the service very erratic with us all being served at different times. We should have known better and have stuck... More

We thought we were visiting a nice restaurant with some different food, not knowing that it was a chain restaurant. The servant showed us their different wines, sold to very high prices ( a lot higher than what you could expect). The 2 dishes we received were small and not the best. One dish was even broken in the rim,... More

My husband and I finally decided to try the El Torito in Istanbul. We were curious to see if it was anything like the one at home. It wasn't. It was overpriced for what you get. Not chips and salsa. Small portions. Save yourself some money and just eat the local food. I recommend the Lamahcon place near the train... More

We decided to read first the menu in front of the restaurant and on the street before getting in and having our lunch. After some seconds the waiter on the street, inviting customers to get in, asked us if we have decided, I replied kindly that we want to read the menu first. After some more seconds, he asked us... We called for evening meal at this Restaurant because it was close to our hotel. My husband choose from the Mexican menu, I from the Turkish. His soup was brought 10 minutes before mine arrived, and when it did it was cold. His Mexican main course arrived whilst he was still eating soup, which the waiter whipped away from the... More

This is NOT true Mexican food, but if you stick to the fresher things rather than the fried things you can get a great tasty meal. I love the atmosphere and the lime margaritas are excellent.

After a very long day of walking, we stopped at El Toritos for dinner. I have eaten many times at El Toritos in the US, though not in the last few years. It's odd, because right next door is another small restaurant selling burgers, etc., and when we were there, if you ordered a burger from the El Torito menu,... More

I took a group of 49 here, the manager was top class and took very good care of us. As a guide he met me 3 times and gave me some very good advice, then fed my group with a lot of traditional Turkish food which they liked a lot. El Torito is in an excellent location, is clean with... More

One of the rare good mexican places in Istanbul. Food is delicious and the service is excellent. Another beauty of the place is that it is located to close to the finacial district.

Staying in Besiktas

Neighbourhood Profile
Besiktas
In Besiktas, skyscrapers compete with palaces for space in an upscale vista replete with hilly green parkland filling in the margins. Step into this rather wealthy neighbourhood and discover a rich mix of opportunities to shop, dine, and be entertained. For folks in search of urban buzz, not to mention a constant reminder of just how important Istanbul’s waterways are to its rich history, there's the frenetic Besiktas ferry terminal or the city’s most vibrant fish market to explore. For a timeout of metropolitan proportions, head to the bucolic Yildiz Park or the chic Bosphorus-side fishing village of Ortakoy. Attractions such as the grandiose Dolmabahce Palace and a bevy of other stately residences await admiration. To be sure, this large and not overly touristy swath of Istanbul yields plenty of pleasure for all.
