This place is totally worth to make the walk out for! The location on Trip Advisor is a little off, you need to keep walking past the first lokum (Turkish Delight) store to find it. Don't be fooled! Once you get there it's such a wonderful sanctuary of treats and yes Turkish delight. All made in house and fresh. I'd... More

I came to this quaint, unassuming little shop on the recommendation of a travelling companion who ventured into the city especially to visit this one shop. As soon as you enter you realise it has real historical and even cultural significance. It has been a small family business for many years making the most perfect Turkish Delight. I guarantee even... We decided to visit this shop after reading about it online. It isn't the easiest place to find, but is worth the effort. It seems many locals are not aware of it as not one person we asked knew of its whereabouts. The place is unassuming and as other reviews mention it is old-fashioned but that adds to its charm.... Old fashioned sweet shop with a sense of history. Hand made locum (Turkish delight). Many different flavours - we really liked the pistachio version.

We have returned time and time again to buy Turkish Delight from Altan. Always new flavours to try and you DO get to try before you buy. Love the chocolate and hazelnut, rose and pistachio, and the cinnamon. You might be lucky to find a new batch of orange. They also sell boiled lollies in the traditional Turkish style, halva... Mmmm we brought home about 10 boxes for our family and friends, it was that good. Way cheaper and better than the Bazaar shops, and the owner is so wonderful

I usually don't like them but now I love them after being here. Went here twice on our trip to Istanbul. The Lokam/Halva is superb too. Very good service . Close to the spice bazaar, about 10 minute walk

So this is another sweet shop in Istanbul and they sell Turkish Delight ... so what? You can get decent Turkish Delight anywhere right? Wrong! This place is the real deal. We sought this little shop out during our trip to Istanbul and we were so happy to have made the effort to do so. It's an old world family... More

We came to this little hidden gem after hearing about it on a BBC food travel show. It didn't disappoint - you could taste the freshness and the ingredients and each delight was unique in flavour and texture. The shop owner was also a lovely man who recommended us to someone in the Spice market jungle who then gave us... More

We were taken to this place as part of a private food tour of the local area and I have to say I wasn't that excited because I have never liked Turkish delight.... but WOW was I wrong! This is proper Turkish delight. Not the nasty gloopy floral tasting stuff you get in the UK and not the mass produced... More

Staying in Grand Bazaar

Neighbourhood Profile
Grand Bazaar
Tourists, hawkers, and locals come together at the Grand Bazaar to comb its labyrinthine passageways in search of a bargain – be it a pair of brand name jeans, a handcrafted silk rug, or a perfectly brewed cup of tea. Outside the vast bazaar, worn, narrow streets wind their way down from its lofty perch to the southern shore of the Golden Horn, where the evocatively aromatic Spice Bazaar beckons alongside the elegant New Mosque (opened in 1665). Nearby, the famed Galata Bridge offers pedestrian access to urban delights across the river in Istanbul’s more residential and contemporary neighbourhoods, while the must-see sights of Sultanahmet are but a leisurely stroll away.
