I had such an amazing time with Rocco and Leyla during the cooking Alaturka class and I would highly recommend it. Beyond the fact that you get to learn how to make beautiful turkish dishes (some fairly easy than you can prepare at home with not much effort) you have also all sort of insights about food in general in... Excellent communication prior to arrival. Sadly for Rocco two other people failed to show up and did not cancel (rude and inconsiderate) but he took it in his stride and gave me his full attention despite the lesson now being of poor financial value to him, but high cultural and culinary value for me. Cooking is done in a true... More

One of the people at my hotel suggested this restaurant as offering an unusual take on local cuisine. It was superb. They have a fixed menu of several courses, and the ingredients and flavors are amazing. They use the highest quality ingredients, and combine them so as to constantly delight and surprise you. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, and... More

My family visited Istanbul in late July 2016. During this time, we had the privilege of eating at Cooking Alaturka. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to participate in a cooking class, but thankfully we were able to taste the wonderful food that they make! We started off with the best red lentil soup that we had ever tasted. My kids... More

We first learned how to cook several dishes, then we ate them together. The place is about a 30-minute walk from the spice market in the heart of Sultanahmet. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn how to cook Turkish dishes.

After 2 weeks of travelling and restaurant dinners it was wonderful to eat food that was delicious - and not because it was loaded with salt and fat. Set 4 course menu without beverages. Authentic Turkish food served at an appropriate pace. The red lentil soup was particularly good and everything was delicious. Given the location it was a pleasure... More

Our recent cooking experience was incredible. I loved being in this woman's immaculate kitchen. She was delightful and the food was delish. The gentleman who served our food was exceptionally thoughtful and gracious. Be sure to schedule this experience as part of your visit to Istanbul.

We each had a different set menu and both were incredible. We came in May and had the place to ourselves. The chefs were great, really friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious and even if I was trying to order local cuisine wouldn't have been what I would have picked but was amazing, clearly very fresh and local ingredients.... More

We were introduced to this place by a receptionist at our nearby hotel whose husband is involved in running the place. She was anxious to point out that the emphasis was on the food rather than the atmosphere or the view. That suited us and we enjoyed an excellent but simple four courses for the princely sum of TL65 a... More

After taking the cooking class with my mum I definitely decided to come back and enjoy the restaurant menu with both my parents. I learnt that the restaurant menu is not very wide because the kitchen is the same for restaurant and cooking class, but this is the reason why they can offer a truly and always fresh menu. The... Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
